Job Description
Our company has a rapidly growing interdisciplinary team of scientists in London and exciting plans to expand our London presence, initially at The Francis Crick Institute as part of our 'Skylab' expansion, and from 2027 in our new state-of-the-art London Discovery Research Centre and UK Headquarters at the hub of London's Knowledge Quarter. This will be home to approximately 180 scientists alongside other colleagues in clinical, regulatory and business roles, including marketing, finance and administration.
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist in Stromal Immunology to be fully lab based at the Francis Crick Institute, London. This role is under a 12-month fixed term contract.
In this role, you will identify unmet medical needs, evaluate and apply novel experimental approaches and impact basic research and translational medicine.
Working collaboratively with our discovery teams at the Francis Crick Institute and the London Bioscience Innovation Centre you will apply cutting edge lab technologies and Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning tools to identify drug discovery targets for potential medicines that could tackle inflammatory/autoimmune diseases and improve our understanding of how our potential new therapies and medicines work at a cellular and molecular level in the patients we serve.
What you will do:
- Develop, validate, and implement cellular assays and associated data analysis independently.
- Deliver high quality experimental data to address project objectives.
- Apply immune biology expertise in the isolation and culture of various primary cells from human and mouse blood and tissues to support the delivery of projects.
- Clearly communicate data summaries and identify next steps.
- Actively contribute to lab operation management.
- Keep up to date with emerging technologies in the field of immunology/stromal immunology.
- Contribute to implementation of new approaches and workflows to address project questions and build new lab capability.
- Work both independently and collaboratively in a cross functional team environment to advance drug discovery.
- Demonstrate a "one-team" mindset by proactively engaging in lab and department initiatives.
- Promote, and positively contribute to, a work culture that is diverse and inclusive, foster a growth mindset and values respective constructive feedback in order to progress business deliverables.
- Maintain a high standard of experimentation and record keeping.
What you will need to be successful in this role:
Required Experience:
- MSc/BSc in Biological Sciences with relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech.
- Excellent organisational and laboratory management skills.
- Demonstrated evidence of applied practical expertise in culture of primary cells isolated from human blood.
- Demonstrate evidence of being able to effectively troubleshoot research problems and adapt research protocols.
- Proficiency across cellular and molecular techniques, which may include primary cell isolation and culture, protein detection (Meso Scale Discovery, ELISA, Luminex).
- Experienced in cell biology including the characterisation of cellular phenotypes and functional responses, including analysis of drug responses using flow cytometry.
