As a Science Teacher, you will help inspire and nurture a love of science across our curriculum, tailoring lessons to meet the unique learning needs of each student.About Our Students: Our students have a variety of needs, including physical and learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and social, emotional, and mental health challenges. As a special school, we provide highly individualised support, ensuring that each child's learning is supported in the way that works best for them. Some students may require additional support with communication, mobility, or social skills, and we take a holistic approach to learning, focusing not only on academic success but also on developing life skills and emotional resilience.As a Science Teacher in our school, you will be part of a team that works closely with support staff, therapists, and families to provide a well-rounded educational experience that meets the needs of our diverse learners. Your role will be central to helping our students develop practical and academic science skills while fostering curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world around them.Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver science lessons that are accessible, engaging, and tailored to the specific learning needs of our students.
  • Use a range of strategies and resources to support differentiated learning, ensuring all students are appropriately challenged, whether they are developing foundational knowledge or exploring more advanced concepts.
  • Support students in practical science experiments, using hands-on activities to help reinforce theoretical concepts.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and support staff to ensure that students with additional needs are fully included in lessons and have the support they need to succeed.
  • Regularly assess and monitor students' progress, providing constructive feedback and setting clear, achievable targets.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on subjects and with external professionals, such as speech and language therapists and educational psychologists, to support students' individual development.
  • Promote the development of social and emotional skills alongside academic learning, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Actively contribute to the wider school community, supporting extracurricular activities and events that help develop students' interests in science and beyond.
  • Ideal Candidates will:
  • Hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent and have experience teaching science at secondary level, ideally with experience in special education or a strong desire to work in this area.
  • Have an understanding of and empathy for the needs of students with SEND, with the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit diverse learning styles.
  • Possess strong subject knowledge of biology, chemistry, and physics, and be able to make science accessible to students with a range of abilities.
  • Be patient, flexible, and committed to creating a learning environment where every student can succeed.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and have a collaborative approach to working with colleagues, support staff, and families.
