Senior Backup Specialist- Italy

RED Global is delighted to be working with an international client looking for an experienced Senior Backup Specialist to join a dynamic team in the public sector.

As a key member of the IT infrastructure team, you will be responsible for managing and protecting critical data across a range of platforms, with a focus on virtualization, Windows and Linux operating systems, and enterprise-grade backup solutions.

You will play an integral role in designing, implementing, and managing scalable and secure backup strategies, ensuring seamless data protection and business continuity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Backup Management & Data Protection: Implement, manage, and troubleshoot backup solutions across various virtual platforms (Hyper-V, VMware) and operating systems (Linux, Windows). Focus on backup optimization, retention management, and disaster recovery.
• Backup Software Management: Administer backup software solutions (eg, Veeam, NetBackup, Rubrik, Commvault) to ensure data integrity, compliance, and recovery speed. Manage backup jobs, restores, and the overall health of the backup environment.
• Cross-Platform Data Protection: Manage backup solutions in both virtualized and physical environments, ensuring proper data protection across different platforms, including databases (Oracle RMAN) and large-scale storage systems (NetApp, Infinidat).
• Disaster Recovery Planning: Plan and implement disaster recovery solutions, ensuring seamless business continuity and off-site backup replication.
• Cloud Integration: Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions for cloud environments, particularly Azure (Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Storage). Integrate on-premises backup solutions with Azure to ensure hybrid data protection.
• Backup Lifecycle & Automation: Design and implement backup policies and automate backup processes using Scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash). Integrate backup solutions with IT management tools to streamline operations.
• Security & Compliance: Ensure the protection of critical data during backup phases, including encryption, backup security, and management of data recovery policies. Maintain compliance with regulations such as GDPR.
• Monitoring & Reporting: Use monitoring and reporting tools to ensure successful backup operations, and provide feedback to improve processes.

Required Skills:

Virtual Platforms:

• Hyper-V: Experience in managing virtualized environments, including VM backup, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• VMware: Strong knowledge of VMware technologies, including vSphere, vCenter, and vMotion. Experience with VMware backup products (eg, Veeam, NetBackup, Commvault).

Operating Systems:

• Linux (RedHat, Ubuntu, CentOS): Expertise in backup management and automation for Linux systems.
• Microsoft (Windows Server, Active Directory): Experience with backup configuration on Microsoft systems using native and third-party solutions (Veeam, NetBackup).
• Backup Software: At least two of the following technologies:
• Veeam: Advanced experience in VM backup, Microsoft 365 protection, and data retention.
• NetBackup: In-depth knowledge of backup management, job restoration, and optimization.
• Rubrik/Commvault: Experience with enterprise data management solutions.
• Oracle RMAN: Expertise in protecting Oracle databases through full and incremental backups.

Storage Solutions:

• Experience managing NetApp, Infinidat, Data Domain, and Isilon storage devices for backup and recovery.
• Cloud Knowledge (Azure): Experience with Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Storage, and Backup Solution Integration for hybrid cloud environments.
• Backup Lifecycle Management: Ability to design, implement, and manage backup solutions aligned with business needs.
• Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity: Practical experience planning for disaster recovery, including off-site backup and replication.
• Scripting & Automation: Experience in automating backup tasks using Scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash).

Required Experience:

• Several years of relevant experience in enterprise-level backup management and disaster recovery.
• Experience in multi-vendor and multi-platform environments.
• Certifications in backup solutions (Veeam, NetBackup, Commvault) and/or storage technologies (NetApp, EMC) are a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical teams.
