Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist in Physical Health Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust We are delighted to advertise this varied post working with people with long term conditions. This is a Band 7/8a preceptorship role (subject to meeting progression requirements). Main duties of the job In this post you would become part of the The Long-Term Conditions Psychology Team based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital working into the clinical specialties of Chronic Pain and Haematology (Haemophilia and other bleeding disorders, TTP and Sickle Cell and Thalassemia). The Long Term Conditions Team is part of the Psychological Outpatient Services of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
Service Area: Long term conditions (Royal Hallamshire Team), Outpatient Services working into Haematology (Haemophilia and other bleeding disorders, TTP and Sickle Cell and Thalassemia) and Chronic Pain.
Within this diverse role there will be opportunities for multidisciplinary team working, including being the link person for a particular MDT, providing supervision and training along with guidance to the wider staff group. Working with patients and team members, there is potential to have a far-reaching positive impact both directly and indirectly, making a huge difference to outcomes and quality of life for patients with long-term health conditions.
This post will work primarily with patients with long-term health conditions in an outpatient setting, although there may be opportunities to undertake some inpatient work.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications
- (Band 8a) Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, or counselling psychology including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the British Psychological Society
- (Band 7 & 8a) Professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- (Band 7 & 8a) Eligible for Practitioner Full Membership of the BPS Divisions of Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or working towards this- for band 7)
- (Band 7) Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), or counselling psychology as accredited by the HCPC, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the British Psychological Society. Will consider applicants due to complete training in September 2023.
- (Band 7 & 8a) Pre-qualification training and qualifications in other fields of applied psychology.
- (Band 8a) Significant experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, and in-patient settings.
- (Band 8a) Significant experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups including with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.

- (Band 7 & 8a) Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.

- (Band 7) Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g., personality disorder, chronic or terminal illness, complex psychological or physical problems, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc).
- (Band 7) High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological or psychotherapeutic approach
