This role sits within the Commercial Finance team working with the Commercial Finance Manager and Head of Commercial Finance to deliver MBNL finance targets.

  • Support the Commercial Finance Manager and Head of Commercial Finance to deliver a trusted Business Partnering relationship with stakeholders internally and across shareholder and supplier organisations.
  • Responsible for all aspects of financial management, including areas such as Property, Legal, Operations, and Infrastructure related projects. This includes management & financial accounting, business partnering, decision support, reporting, contract management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Support the delivery of roadmap/strategy, integral to producing the 5-year business plan, which feeds into the team level strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the finance subject matter expert and business partner.
  • Produce 5-year plans, quarterly business plans, and requisite analysis and presentation to shareholders.
  • Understand and pre-empt the needs of the shareholders and efficiently answer their queries for all aspects of finance.
  • Own month-end processes for their area and support other team members when required, including preparing and posting journals, completing balance sheet reconciliations, and updating risks and initiatives.
  • Work with the Financial Accounting Team to produce month-end results and financial reporting with relevant commentary and high-quality analysis.
  • Influence a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior stakeholders, to ensure financial targets are met, controls are not breached, and accuracy is high.
  • Articulate complex financial concepts in a simplified way for better understanding.
  • Provide financial rigor to ensure delivery towards overall Capex and Opex targets.
  • Understand existing processes and implement enhancements where appropriate to drive change and efficiency.
  • Maintain finance control environment for the business area and suggest and implement improvement plans.
  • Manage Opex and Capex.
  • Identify cost savings opportunities and implement processes needed to achieve these savings to meet corporate financial targets.
  • Work with contract managers and procurement teams to ensure effective financial management of contracts and drive cost-saving initiatives.
  • Act as a business partner and advisor for business teams, shareholders, and suppliers, providing advice, support, and consultancy services.
  • Produce financial analysis/modelling of commercial deals and decision support.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with shareholders and vendor teams.
  • Support the Commercial Finance Manager in managing the budget and provide ad-hoc support to the Head of Commercial Finance and Finance Director.

Qualifications and Experience Needed

  • Qualified ACA/CIMA/ACCA accountant or similar with at least 2 years post-qualified experience.
  • Experience in managing senior stakeholders and significant, complex contracts.
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and highly analytical.
  • Excellent communicator with a curious mind.
  • Keen problem solver.
  • Delivers high-quality work by the deadline.
  • Able to influence and negotiate to meet needs.
  • Collaborates effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
