Job Description

£56,733 - £59,772 per annum

Tower Hamlets is looking for an ambitious, experienced, and motivated senior contracts and procurement lawyer, with the ability to deliver at pace within one of the most regeneration intensive London boroughs.

From the soaring heights of Canary Wharf to the bustling street market on Petticoat Lane, Tower Hamlets is home to some of London's most recognisable scenes. This vibrant borough is also one of London's most diverse: a proud melting pot of cultures and traditions that makes Tower Hamlets such a unique place to live, work, learn and do business. Based in East London, with excellent transport links, our borough is a fascinating place to work with a rich history, heritage, and a diverse community.

Tower Hamlets is seeking to recruit a Senior Contracts / Procurement Lawyer who will provide high quality legal and procurement advice on contract and commercial matters for all Council departments including regeneration, ICT, social care and public health, communities and public realm. Knowledge of local government issues is desirable but not essential.

This is a full-time permanent role that allows for hybrid/flexible working. The role is based in our new Town Hall in Whitechapel which boasts excellent connections throughout the Capital and beyond.

Tower Hamlets vision for our borough is that: people are aspirational, independent and have equal access to opportunities; we are a borough that our residents are proud of and love to live in; and we are a dynamic, outcomes-based council using digital innovation and partnership working to respond to the changing needs of our borough. We want people who aspire to our TOWER values: Together; Open; Willing; Excellent; Respect.

Tower Hamlets has a zero-tolerance approach to, and works to eradicate, all forms of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital status, status as a civil partner, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy and maternity and looks to employ a diverse workforce representative of those groups. We recognise that people can also be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We are a Disability Confident Employer, which means applicants who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the post are guaranteed an interview.

We welcome applicants interested in flexible working arrangements and also applicants who live in the borough.

Closing date: 30 March 2025
