We are expanding our Exeter and Manchester teams and are looking for experienced Geoenvironmental Consultants.
We're looking for candidates with strong technical backgrounds, working knowledge and experience applying land contamination risk management processes on a range of projects. You will be keen to grow and develop your technical capability and seek to continually improve and refine these skills. It's essential that our work provides successful outcomes to our clients, whereby you will need to apply knowledge and skills to a broad range of projects and communicate the findings in a way that clearly explains the process undertaken, outcomes, and consequences. Our projects are not regional and we operate across the UK.
Responsibilities
You will be undertaking technically accurate assessments, preparing clear and accurate technical reports, supporting graduates and less experienced staff as the team grows. The team works in a collaborative way and places a strong focus on learning and development and refining skills. You will be based in the geoenvironmental team working with one of our Associate Directors, and the wider team both remotely and in person. Communication is key in this role as there will be liaison with internal and external clients including managing expectations.
- Maintaining and developing strong background knowledge.
- Maintaining and developing technical knowledge and understanding, including with respect to the EAs Land Contamination Risk Management (LCRM) Framework.
- Technical and communication skills to ensure good report outcomes.
- Working towards and delivering high-quality work (in accordance with good practice, relevant standards/legislation, Codes of Practice, current design methods and Health & Safety).
- Understanding and demonstrating the importance of effective communication in our technical work, including being able to communicate technical information in an understandable way.
- Ensuring deliverables meet the client's needs and are provided on time/budget and to high standards.
- Planning tasks and workload to ensure projects are delivered on time/budget and to high standards.
- Supporting geoenvironmental consultants/graduates (as the team grows).
- Project managing smaller projects and good commercial/financial awareness.
- Contributing to bids and preparing simple bids.
- Assisting with business development and the promotion of the capabilities of the company.
- Ensuring compliance with internal management system procedures.
Role
Land contamination risk management - Undertaking the following assessment and preparing/contributing to the associated reports:
- Preliminary risk assessments (land contamination desk study, preparing preliminary conceptual site models, and outlining next steps).
- Site investigation scheme - designing investigations; contributing to/preparing specifications and tender evaluations, overseeing fieldwork and scheduling geochemical analysis.
- Able to assess ground conditions and prepare ground models to support the development of a conceptual site model.
- Quantitative risk assessments (Generic Quantitative Risk Assessments (GQRA) (human health experience essential, ground gas and controlled waters - beneficial).
- Detailed quantitative risk assessment (DQRA) (experience beneficial).
- Remediation options appraisal, Remediation strategy, Remediation verification and validation.
- Fieldwork for site investigation supervision and remediation verification (in particular for Senior role).
Materials and waste - Experience in preparing and completing the following would be beneficial and will be part of the role (training can be provided):
- Waste classification assessments and waste acceptance assessments.
- Material management strategies and material management plans.
- Site won materials including Made Ground, natural soils, and secondary aggregates from demolition.
Qualifications
- A Degree in (typically) environmental earth science/geoenvironmental/geological science.
- Member of a relevant environmental professional body.
- Chartered member (or working towards chartership) of a relevant professional body.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years' experience working in a UK consultancy working for private and public-sector developers and operators, on a range of development/infrastructure projects.

- A valid UK driving licence.
- Familiar with GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS) and Holebase.
