POSITION/TITLE: NSA Senior Manager Employee Relations

GRADE: G5/ EVP- 5

DEPARTMENT: Human Resources

PURPOSE / DETAILS OF THE JOB

To manage the employee relations within the company in line with the Business Vision, Labour Relations Act and Collective Agreements.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
  • Min: B degree or LLB Degree / Human Resource Management qualification
  • Ideal: Master's Degree (Business Administration)
  • 8 - 12 years' experience in an employee relations role; 4- 5 years management experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of employment laws, e.g., Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity Act, Skills Development Act. Experience in CCMA representation
  • In-depth knowledge of collective agreements.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES / KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Employee Relations Management: Providing value-add to the business by keeping abreast of all relevant legislation i.e., LRA; BCEA; Labour Court & CCMA rulings etc.
  • Advising management and staff on correct interpretation and application of labour legislations; Management of collective agreements and Union relations
  • Managing employee relations queries from employees, management, and external parties.
  • Setting up and facilitating disciplinary/grievance hearings and communication of the outcome
  • Keeping a clear record of all administration pertaining to employee relations
  • Completing quality checks on relevant employee relations policies being implemented in the business.

Litigation Services

  • Representing the Company in labour disputes and litigation.
  • Preparing documents and evidence for use in the litigation process.
  • Consulting and preparing witnesses for litigation purposes.
  • Preparing appropriate employee relations reports.

People/Leadership

  • Maintaining constructive cross-functional relationships across the organization.
  • Implement the Employee relations strategy & all stakeholders understand the business strategy and vision.
  • Drives a high-performance culture within the organisation.
  • Strives to engage, retain, motivate, and develop people.
  • Ensures all recruitment within department is conducted in line with the organisation's EE & transformation targets.
  • Maintains regular communication with cross-functional teams.

Drafting of Policies and Procedures

  • Implementing ER best practice within employee relations policies and procedures.
  • Drafting various policies and procedures dealing with day-to-day operational issues within employment relations framework for approval.
  • Reviewing relevant employee relations policies and procedures as per Company requirements.

Transformation

  • Knowledge and understanding of Employment Equity Act & Skills Development. Identify and assist in development of appropriate EE programmes.
  • Facilitate EE Committee meetings.
  • Monitoring and review progress for feedback to management.
  • Development of learning material and facilitation Conduct the learning interventions on:
  • Management of discipline and grievances
  • Management of absenteeism
  • Management of Union relations
  • Collective agreements implementation
  • Update on relevant employment legislation
