Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Market Intelligence and Advisory Analyst (Grade 9) to join the Market Intelligence and Advisory (MIA) team on a permanent basis.

Team Overview:
The Market Intelligence and Advisory (MIA) team sits within the Corporate Affairs Directorate. This directorate consists of the Market Intelligence and Advisory team and the Communications team. The MIA team supports the Executive team, Board and wider business, with energy sector intelligence, analysis and advice to support the business strategy and operational delivery. This includes monitoring and analysing political, policy, regulatory and industry developments, and market trends, to build internal knowledge across the business.

This supports the business to understand impacts on Elexon, manage risks, and understand market opportunities and targeted policy areas to influence. The team leads on forming Elexon's strategic positions, preparing and coordinating consultation responses, supporting Elexon's Executive and Board in their engagement activities and providing advice to government, Ofgem and the energy industry.

Job Purpose:
The Senior Analyst will report to a Market Intelligence and Advisory (MIA) Senior Advisor and provide robust analysis and coordination support to the MIA team, contributing to Elexon's strategic positioning and engagement across the electricity, gas, transport, hydrogen, and heat markets. The role includes leading on specific workstreams, producing evidence-based insights, and contributing to the development of Elexon's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Horizon scanning and gathering energy sector intelligence:

  • Track and evaluate key energy market, regulatory, and policy developments in areas such as electricity, gas, transport, hydrogen, and heat.
  • Build and maintain pipeline of intelligence developments relevant to Elexon across the external energy market landscape and proactively share lessons learned with the senior leadership.
  • Provide qualitative risk and opportunity assessments for Elexon, focusing on reputational, operational, and strategic impacts.
  • Deliver actionable insights and lessons learned to senior leadership, enhancing strategic decision-making processes.

Regulatory and policy co-ordination:

  • Review and analyse strategic consultations, support drafting and coordination of evidence-based responses in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional meetings with clear objectives and desired outcomes, proactively drive discussions and foster strong relationships across departments to enhance collaboration and alignment.
  • Support technical workstreams to coordinate Elexon's input into Government, Ofgem and Industry reviews, ensuring alignment across departments and implementing a central repository for the MIA team projects.

Stakeholder engagement and Influence:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive stakeholder mapping and engagement plans for the MIA team, ensuring alignment with Elexon's strategic priorities to support the team's engagement activities.
  • Prepare high-quality, insightful, and strategic briefings, reports, and presentations, tailored to informed audiences, on developments across the external energy landscape.
  • Identify relevant external forums and events for the MIA team, and represent Elexon where required, to raise the profile of Elexon, and share intelligence back with the organisation.

Deliver regular intelligence:

  • Develop regular insights and foresight briefings for senior stakeholders on market, policy and regulatory trends and translate findings into actionable insights for Elexon.
  • Stay up to date on market arrangements, the BSC, governance processes, energy markets, policy developments, regulatory regimes and systems to enhance subject matter expertise.

Capabilities and competencies:

Critical:

  • Good understanding of the regulatory and policy landscape in energy, transport, and heat sectors.
  • Awareness of industry developments impacting Elexon and electricity market arrangements.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and research capabilities.
  • Willingness to learn and articulate complex technical market arrangements, including the BSC and industry codes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, with openness to learning new tools and programs.
  • Relevant academic or professional experience working in the energy sector.

Developmental / Desirable:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, law, engineering or related field.
  • Good understanding and articulation of industry developments that may impact Elexon and settlement in the medium to long-term.
  • Moderate knowledge and articulation of the BSC, BSC's obligations, and processes.
  • Presentation and public speaking skills; willing and interested in developing these to the next level.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools and data analysis capabilities.
