Job Description
NES Fircroft are delighted to be partnering with a clean energy client looking to add a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Edinburgh, Scotland working on Hydrogen-based projects.
The role will be contract-based and requires a candidate to be based in Edinburgh full time. It will be for an initial 6 - 12 month duration and offers a strong rate of pay outside of IR35.
Role & Responsibilities
To design hydrogen-based equipment and support its build. To ensure that this equipment is built to the best safety requirements, on time and cost-consciously.
- Lead and take ownership of project design from concept to manufacture.
- Manage projects including client communications and take responsibility for deliverables.
- Design of Hydrogen-based equipment including refuelers, fuel storage, and installations.
- Complete supporting calculations which will include flow, pressure, structural, heat transfer calculations, and FEA.
- Expected to turn around and complete work packages within a timely manner.
- Understand and apply ATEX knowledge.
- 3D CAD Design.
- Management of the entire product lifecycle.
- Take part in HAZOPs and contribute to LOPA's.
- Contribute to the learning and development of more junior engineering talent.
- Work with controls and electrical engineers to support the complete system design.
- Preparation of part specifications and the procurement of parts.
- Preparation of Technical file documentation and O&M manuals.
- Ensure that the H&S, quality, and environmental procedures are followed.
- Maintain the project PED and HAZOP documentation.
- Report to the Operations Manager of any incidents, spillages, etc. that occur.
- Support the customer services team.
Main deliverables in role:
- Whole mechanical design projects, with associated documentation and CAD models.
- Cost and schedule compliant designs.
Required
- Expert CAD proficiency in 3D and 2D.
- 2D drawing proficiency: standards, dimensioning, materials.
- Production of clear and accurate manufacturing drawings.
- Solid understanding of procurement and manufacturing stages of a design lifecycle.
- Mechanical engineering design experience: structural and pressure vessels.
- Structural and pressure vessel regulations knowledge.
- Materials and manufacturing knowledge.
- Ability to interpret P&ID.
- Working knowledge of quality standards, regulations, and regulatory bodies.
- Fault find and supply solutions to engineer faults.
- Expert MRP and BoM Handling experience, and designs roles in the ECO process.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ideally, you will be degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience of designing P&ID.
- Experience in Autodesk Inventor 3D.
- Previous experience in a related industry, i.e. Process, O&G, Renewable Energy, etc.
