Contract basis: 6 months fixed term contract
Your role
Pico Technology is a leading innovator in the field of electronic instrumentation, specialising in high-performance test and measurement equipment. Our commitment to quality and innovation has established us as a trusted name in the industry, and we are looking for talented professionals to join our team on a contract basis.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior PCB Layout Engineer for a 6-month contract to support our existing hardware engineers and take responsibility for in-house PCB design and layout activities.
This role requires ownership of the complete PCB design process, from assisting with requirements and mechanical board definition to delivering high-quality PCB layouts suitable for volume production.
Day to day activities include:
- Complete PCB Design Responsibility: Contribute to the entire PCB design process, including assisting with requirements, mechanical definition, PCB stackup design, and symbol and footprint creation to IPC standards.
- Component Database Contribution: Support the component creation team by contributing to the component database and ensuring all components conform to company and IPC standards. Perform schematic capture and PCB layout design in support of New Product Development.
- Component Selection Assistance: Assist with component selection for new and existing designs, considering factors such as the manufacturing process, technology obsolescence, availability, and cost.
- Quality and Standards Compliance: Ensure deliverables meet agreed quality, specification, and timescales, adhering to relevant company, market quality, and regulatory standards.
- Design Calculations and Simulations: Perform design calculations and simulations, prototype as required to predict performance, reliability, and identify/eliminate high-risk areas, ensuring robust designs with minimal re-design.
- Cost-Effective Manufacturing: Ensure PCB assemblies are cost-effective and efficient to manufacture through a knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM).
- Design Review Participation: Actively participate and contribute to design reviews.
What we're looking for
We are seeking an individual with proven PCB design and layout experience and strong knowledge of IPC standards for symbol and footprint creation. The ideal candidate will be proficient in schematic capture and have experience with New Product Development processes. Experience in rigid PCB constructions is essential, and familiarity with flex-rigid or flex designs is desirable.
We value expertise in high-speed digital, complex analogue, and RF circuitry and a solid understanding of PCB fabrication, supplier capabilities, and design for manufacture. The ability to perform design calculations, simulations, and prototyping is key. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team are essential. Experience with the Cadence suite of software would be advantageous.
