Senior Research Analyst - Geopolitics (Africa)

Our client is an independent research and insights consultancy with a focus on geopolitics, researching and investigating fragile states, opinion on the ground, and how current affairs affect every-day people and how governments communicate with them.

This is a superb opportunity for an ambitious, detail-oriented person with a strong interest and cultural understanding of the Africa region and experience in preparing and delivering information and analytical research products.

This position offers the opportunity to work on a top security project which integrates multiple data streams including opinion research, media monitoring, open-source insights, and qualitative research. The work covers some of the most important contemporary issues (security, democracy, development, defense etc.); this role will suit people with interests in international politics and backgrounds in research.

Candidates will grow and develop their research and intelligence expertise and there is some potential for foreign travel. Candidates must be resident in the UK or have the right to live and work in the UK.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinating with multiple research suppliers, in a variety of countries, to collect quantitative and qualitative data.
  2. Managing multi-country reporting.
  3. Designing new research approaches and methodologies or updating existing ones.
  4. Composing and constructing qualitative and quantitative data collection tools.
  5. Ensuring relevant stakeholders and partners are engaged in research design and planning.
  6. Providing data analysis on primary and/or secondary data, ensuring that meaningful techniques are used to analyse the data collected.
  7. Report writing, QC and delivery of high-quality analytical products.
  8. Keeping abreast of relevant news in regions of study.

We will be looking for candidates with experience or academic background in:

  1. High comfort level with quantitative data (using Excel/SPSS) and excellent writing skills.
  2. Excellent analytical skills, particularly with regards to quantitative data collection, management and analysis.
  3. Experience with additional data analysis tools and software (PowerBi, Media Monitoring tools, OSINT skills) is a plus.
  4. Preference given to candidates with Assessment, M&E, Analysis background; knowledge of the methods and techniques of monitoring and evaluation, including developing survey questionnaires, drawing a sample, and assessing the quality of resulting data is desirable.
  5. Demonstrable knowledge of the politics, economics, and societies of Africa.
