The role
As a Senior Safety Engineer, you'll support the operational capability of the nation's nuclear submarine fleet and the continuous nuclear deterrent by joining our Submarine Support Engineering group and lead on the delivery of safety engineering tasks.

Day-to-day, you'll be part of the delivery of Babcock International Group's Engineering Services technical outputs. Leading a small team and working on safety cases for the new and current operational facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support hazard identification activities including HAZOPs, checklists and walkdowns.
  • Undertake safety assessments including the application of deterministic and probabilistic analysis techniques and the production of fault schedules and fault/event trees.
  • Inform the design of nuclear and radiological facilities to ensure that risks are reduced to a level which is tolerable and as low as reasonably practicable.
  • Author and check technical documentation.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential Experience:

  • A background in nuclear/radiological safety.
  • Good interpersonal skills, and be competent in verbal and written communication.
  • The ability to operate and interface effectively with senior stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Scientific discipline and/or have relevant knowledge and experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status is desirable, but not strictly essential if you possess the relevant level of experience in Nuclear Safety.

Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
