We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior SEND Case Officer to join a Local Authority team, ensuring that children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive the support they need to thrive. This is a crucial role within our SEND team, helping to deliver high-quality, person-centred casework for children and families across the borough.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and manage complex casework for children and young people with SEND, ensuring that their needs are identified and appropriate support is provided in a timely manner.
  2. Work in partnership with parents, schools, healthcare professionals, and other agencies to develop and review Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans.
  3. Offer expert advice and guidance on SEND processes and legislation to colleagues, schools, and external partners.
  4. Support the development and implementation of local policies and practices for SEND, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice.
  5. Monitor and review the effectiveness of EHC plans, ensuring outcomes are met and children's needs are being addressed.
  6. Contribute to the development and delivery of SEND training to staff and external professionals.
  7. Ensure that cases are managed in line with local authority procedures, statutory requirements, and service priorities.
  8. Manage and supervise junior staff, offering mentorship and guidance where needed.
Essential Criteria:
  1. Significant experience in SEND casework, including managing complex cases and working with a variety of professionals.
  2. In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice, and relevant guidance.
  3. Strong understanding of Education, Health, and Care (EHC) processes and procedures.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with children, families, and professionals effectively.
  5. Experience of managing and supervising staff, with a commitment to professional development and team support.
  6. Ability to work under pressure, managing competing priorities and deadlines.
