Job overviewWe have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Staff Nurse (band 6) to join our dynamic team on Pelican Ward (inpatient) and Pelican Ambulatory (day care) on a secondment/Fixed term contract. Pelican is a busy 10 bedded inpatient ward that specialises in the management of children and young people with Rheumatology, Dermatology, Immunology, and Infectious Disease conditions.
Our Ambulatory day case area specialises in biologic infusions for both Rheumatology and Immunology patients. We also carry out joint injections, skin biopsies and day case surgery. We care for patients ranging in age from neonates to adolescent. Our patients require a varied input of nursing care from both low to high dependency and have both surgical and medical requirements.
We are looking for registered nurses with excellent paediatric clinical skills who are well-motivated, have exceptional communication capabilities, time management skills and a passion to develop their knowledge.
Main duties of the job- To be a clinical expert within the specialty.
- To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for the children, young people and their families at all times.
- Ensure that each child or young person is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated in negotiation with the family, and that this is accurately documented.
- Promote Family Centred Care and ensure the provision of a welcoming, caring, clean and safe environment for the children, young people and their families.
- To act as an advocate for the child, young person and family ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.

Person specification- NMC Registered Nurse (appropriate to clinical speciality)
- Relevant nursing qualification
- Evidence of ongoing professional development relating to clinical speciality
- Assessor or practice supervisor qualification/experience
- Knowledge and understanding of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
- Experience of having worked with acute/chronically sick children or specialised transferable skills
- Understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing
- Understanding of Diversity and Inclusion challenges in the workplace.
- Understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice
- Demonstrable contribution to advancing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace
