Our main adult theatre is a busy and dynamic environment, setting the benchmark for clinical excellence. We have 5 operating suites catering for Cardiac, Orthopaedics, ENT and Ophthalmic, Plastics, General/Vascular, Urology and Gynaecology. We work with surgeons who are the best in their specialities carrying out simple to the more complex surgeries.

Role Overview:

To be responsible for providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team and to participate in the assessment of patient care needs and implement and maintain agreed standards of care.

You'll be scrubbing for a range of cases to include: Bariatric, General Surgery, Hepatobiliary, Liver, Colorectal, and Endoscopy.

What you'll do:

  1. Assist in the positioning and preparation of a patient as directed by the surgical team and ensure that any specimens are correctly labelled and dispatched to the laboratory.
  2. Help to control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding dress, the maintenance of a clean working environment, decontamination and sterilisation procedures and asepsis.
  3. Participate in induction and orientation programmes for new staff to ensure a welcoming environment.
  4. Assist the team leaders in the Personal Development Plans of junior staff.
  5. Prepare patients for clinical/operative procedures, both in anaesthetics and surgery.
  6. Provide assistance in clinical/operative procedures, both anaesthetics and surgery.
  7. Provide immediate post-operative care.
  8. Provide initial emergency care as required.
  9. Take charge of the clinical area in the absence of an advanced practitioner ensuring patient, visitors and staff safety.
  10. Ensure all equipment is checked prior to use and any faults reported to the Theatre Co-ordinator.
  11. Participate fully as a team member, including working in all areas of the theatre suite, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues, to promote a cohesive team and the achievement of team objectives.

What you'll bring:

  1. RN - 1ST level Registration Adult and/or Children.
  2. HCPC OR NMC registered.
  3. Diploma or Degree in Health Care Studies.
  4. ODP Level 3 NVQ.
  5. ODA 752.
