Derby, Warrington, OR Manchester offices - Hybrid working flexibility
We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we're doing something that's never been done before. We're revolutionising an industry. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senior Engineer Validation and Verification - EC&I to be involved in a game-changing role as we strive to make the nuclear industry more diverse.
Overview of the role
Senior Validation and Verification Engineers fulfil a key role in Rolls-Royce SMR's Systems Engineering approach to design, by leading the process of verifying that our power station design meets all its requirements. This is a part of our strategy to offer a delivery-certain solution, by using modern engineering tools and techniques (analysis, rig test etc) to prove the design before starting construction.
Validation and Verification Engineers will be assigned areas/aspects of the power station, based on their expertise and experience - for Senior Validation and Verification Engineers this will typically be one of the more complex, safety-critical or business-critical areas. They will initially be responsible for developing the verification strategy, which sets out the activities that will be conducted, and the evidence required. They will do this by working closely with design leads and technical specialists from across the power station engineering team.
Throughout the verification lifecycle, a key part of the Senior Validation and Verification Engineer's role will be to coach other Verification Engineers, to develop the team's overall capability; and to provide technical review of the team's outputs.
Key Results and Achievements:
- Development of validation and verification strategies within area of responsibility
- Acting as an intelligent customer in the Verification and Validation of the Plant and wider Rolls-Royce SMR business
- Support the Validation and the Verification of the safety case
- Production of reports for regulatory bodies and the presentation and discussion of the reports with regulators as appropriate
- Defining the objectives/requirements for validation and verification activities within the strategy (e.g. Rig tests, analyses), and agreeing those with the parties responsible for executing them.
- Reviewing/auditing and collecting evidence of verification activities conducted both internally and externally in the supply chain.
- Collating evidence as it is produced and using it to assess compliance to requirements.
- Managing technical interfaces between their own department and other functions within the business to ensure that, by working together, we produce a coherent and efficient technical solution.
Verification and Validation Experience
Experience in verification and validation of new products, ideally in a safety-critical and highly-regulated industry (experience within the nuclear industry in particular would be desirable, but is not essential - we will also consider experience with other forms of power generation, as well as process industry, oil & gas etc).
This experience could have included setting out the strategy/plan, verification activities and exit criteria, conducting activities such as analysis, test etc, or reviewing/auditing evidence from said activities to assess the product's compliance to its requirements.
Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation
- Knowledge or experience of Controls and/or Instrumentation designs, ideally within the nuclear sector or safety critical industry.
- Knowledge of sensors, transducers, and instrumentation used in industrial processes.
- Knowledge of the design and/or verification of electrical power systems (e.g. generation, distribution, protection, control)
- Knowledge of the design and/or verification of electrical/electronic/programmable electronic safety-related systems.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, legislation, codes and standards
Training & Qualification requirements
Degree-level or equivalent qualifications in either civil, structural or mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
Professional recognition through an appropriate professional body, or be working towards it, e.g. IC, IStructE, IMechE.
If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.
