Job overview

The post holder will provide strategic clinical and operational leadership for the Lymphoedema and Leg Ulcer Service, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of high-quality care across Whittington Health Community Services in Haringey and Islington.

They will serve as a clinical expert, offering specialist assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment for patients with lymphoedema and chronic oedema. A key aspect of the role will be empowering patients to engage in self-management through comprehensive education, guidance, and support.

The post holder will independently lead and manage nurse-led Lymphoedema/Chronic Oedema clinics, ensuring best practices are upheld. They will also be responsible for the development and delivery of educational programmes across Whittington Health, fostering knowledge and expertise in lymphoedema management among healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

Leadership and Management

  1. Provide direct line management to specialist clinicians and teams, ensuring high standards of service delivery.
  2. Oversee day-to-day operational and line management responsibilities, ensuring the workforce is effectively managed and supported.
  3. Foster system-wide partnerships to improve population health outcomes related to Lymphoedema, Leg Ulcer, and Community Wounds.
Clinical Service Delivery
  1. Lead the provision of highly specialized services for Lymphoedema, Leg Ulcer, and Community Wound Care.
  2. Ensure service delivery is responsive to patient needs and commissioning directives.
  3. Manage a complex caseload, engaging patients and carers in treatment planning and self-care education.
  4. Provide both general and specialist clinical advice to patients, carers, and professionals.
Communication and Collaboration
  1. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, carers, and the wider healthcare system.
  2. Communicate highly complex and sensitive information to patients, carers, GPs, staff, key stakeholders, and commissioners.
Operational and Quality Assurance
  1. Ensure that service delivery is clinically effective, meeting local and national guidelines.
  2. Maintain oversight of equipment and resource needs, ensuring appropriate stock levels are managed and controlled.
Information Management & IT Skills
  1. Be proficient in the use of Email, Microsoft Office, and relevant patient information systems.
Person specification Education/Qualifications
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to specialty
  • Supervisory and leadership skills training or equivalent experience
  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing
  • MSc relevant to healthcare
Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of community care legislation, NICE guidelines, policy and their implications for practice.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principal of Clinical Governance
  • Able to write reports and papers
