Job overviewThe South East Genomic Medicine Service (SE GMS) is seeking a Programme Manager to provide comprehensive operational and programme management across our programmes to embed equitable access to genomic medicine in South East England. The post holder will create meaningful impact in cutting-edge genomics services in the NHS, working on regional and national change programmes.
The post oversees the PMO and leads the development of a range of integrated change programmes across our strategy, responsible for project management across the life cycle, including pathway redesign, equity of access improvement, education and workforce development.
You will need a track record in NHS service or programme management, with knowledge of improvement methodologies. You will be a self-starter with exceptional drive who takes a flexible approach in responding to changing demands. You will be passionate about team culture, supporting a positive working environment and developing and motivating your teams to maximise delivery.
Main duties of the jobThe South East GMS Programme Manager will work across a wide range of improvement projects to support genomic service development. They will lead the PMO in the planning and delivery of our programmes of work within a robust programme management framework.
They will maintain oversight of workstreams, ensuring visibility of progress and risk among senior leaders, and will need to deploy creative and data-driven solutions to deliver the benefits of genomics across mainstream care.
Programme evaluation, benefits realisation, and demonstrating value will be a core focus for the role, with sufficient evidence generation for robust business case development to support the transition of service changes into business as usual.
The post requires collaborative working with clinicians, health professionals, and patient representatives to ensure anticipated benefits are fully realised.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesKey responsibilities include:
- Provide programme management leadership and support across the full programme life-cycle from conception to programme closure and sustainability.
- Work with the senior team to design our overarching programme of work and to establish and manage the operational structures of the GMSA.
- Work across multiple services to support the embedding of genomics, including pathway design and workforce planning.
- Provide overall PMO leadership.
- Develop business cases for varied audiences.
- Ensure a data-driven approach to programme design, delivery and benefits measurements.
- Ensure all programmes, projects and activities are managed in line with the SE GMS equality, diversity and inclusion strategy.
- Forge effective working relationships and partnerships across the GMS.
- Work with the senior clinical and management team to identify, develop and facilitate networks.
- Work with the SE GMS Education and Training Leads to develop a range of education and training programmes.
- Evidence of leading complex improvement initiatives in a multiple stakeholder environment.
- Experience in complex health or care delivery environments, particularly genomic medicine services.
- Well-developed communication skills, including networking and influencing skills.
- Highly developed written skills to inform and influence decision making.
- Subject matter knowledge in genomics and its application in medicine.
