We have an exciting opportunity for a hard-working and highly motivated Specialist Pharmacist, Patient Services to join the King's College Hospital Pharmacy Team based at the Denmark Hill site.
If you are a good communicator with a passion for pharmacy, then this could be the job for you. The post holder will provide professional leadership to ensure the safe and effective running of the dispensary with operational support from the Dispensary Manager. They will also act as the clinical lead for the dispensary and provide support and supervision for junior pharmacists. In addition, they will be responsible for providing training and supervision in the dispensary for trainee pharmacists in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist Education & Training.

Main duties of the job- Providing clinical support, training, and mentoring to junior pharmacists on the STEP programme and trainee pharmacists during their Patient Services rotations.
- Act as the Clinical lead for Patient Services at the DH sites, providing operational and clinical leadership for the infusions pharmacy and the dispensary.
- Provide support to the clinical services team by participating in the Outpatient screening rota.
- Provide professional leadership to ensure the safe and effective running of the dispensary.
- Lead on projects to help improve the operational services provided at both the DMK site.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesDISPENSARY MANAGEMENT & PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP
- To ensure conformance with the legal and professional requirements across both Denmark Hill dispensaries, including review of General Pharmaceutical Council and Royal Pharmaceutical Society guidance.
- To ensure coordination of dispensary standards across all Trust sites.
- To lead on the development of dispensary policies, guidelines, protocols, and procedures.
- To be responsible for proposing and implementing policies in relation to the dispensary service that have an impact across dispensary services.
- To be responsible for the regular review of operational policies and procedures specific to the provision of clinical screening in dispensaries.
- To support the Deputy Chief Pharmacist Operations on strategic development and planning of dispensary services across the Trust.
- To be the responsible lead in the management and development of Patient Services.
- To plan and implement new working arrangements to meet service demands as needed.
- To be guided by principles and broad occupational policies in relation to Pharmacy Patient Services (national protocols, KCH Formulary, and other local policies and procedures in relation to the provision of a clinical service).
- To develop and undertake audits in Patient Services on a regular basis, implementing changes identified as appropriate.
- To attend KFM Outpatient Pharmacy contract monitoring meetings.
- To attend Pharmacist Specialist Meetings to act as Patient Services representative.
PATIENT/CLIENT CARE
- To be responsible for delivering a customer-focused service to patients.
- To promote high-quality pharmaceutical care for all patients.
- To act as lead specialist clinical pharmacist in Patient Services.
- To participate in and contribute to the clinical pharmacy service as appropriate.
- To provide highly specialised advice on medicine management issues within the specialist area.
- To manage and coordinate responses to all complaints in Pharmacy as needed.
- To manage and coordinate dispensary incident reviews and investigations across both dispensaries, making changes to practice as needed.
FINANCIAL/RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
- To maintain and report on drug expenditure for Patient Services as needed.
- To develop appropriate business cases for the development of pharmacy services as needed and promote cost reduction initiatives within the pharmacy service, including the delivery of cost improvement targets while maintaining service to an agreed standard.
STAFF MANAGEMENT & TRAINING
- To take overall responsibility for the Patient Services and all the staff who work in those areas.
- To be line manager for nominated pharmacy staff and take responsibility (senior staff and delegated more senior staff for more junior staff) for all the following, according to Trust procedures:
- Appraisals and objective setting
- Sickness absence
- Disciplinary and grievance matters
- Recruitment and selection
- Departmental workload allocations
- To ensure the provision of pharmacy training in the dispensary is delivered at an appropriate level, in liaison with the Principal Pharmacist Education & Training.
- To act as a role model for pharmacy staff providing Patient Services.
- To assess clinical competencies of junior pharmacists as needed within dispensaries setting.
- To undertake CPD to ensure that knowledge is continually updated in the fields of emergency planning and business operations.
- To arrange relevant departmental meetings that will enable staff to be brought up to date on current issues and to address staff development needs with regard to changes and developments.
- To be a postgraduate tutor (pre-registration, diploma, or MSc) for pharmacy staff as appropriate and required.
- Registered Pharmacist with the GPhC (1 year competency assessed and examined professional registration)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or Pharmacy Practice
- Member of the RPS faculty
- Previous relevant clinical experience in a variety of clinical specialties.
- Expert clinical knowledge and skills relevant to area of practice.
- Experience of practice research or audit.
- Knowledge of regulations and legislation relevant to pharmacy practice.
- Experience of supervising others.
- Experience in Patient Services or operations.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
