AdvertAn exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Homerton Band 5 rotation. The role offers the post holder to develop experience within our Adult Community Rehab Team, Acute inpatient Team and the Graham Stroke Unit based at the Homerton.
The post holder will have the opportunity to develop skills in the management of acute dysphagia across a range of conditions, as well as delivering specialist rehabilitation for progressive neurological disorders, stroke and brain injury.
Rotational Band 5 staff have numerous opportunities for project working, training and working with third sector service providers, supervision of students and assistants.
You will be well supported in your new role with access to clinical supervision from experienced Senior Speech & Language Therapists, as well as opportunities for peer support with other SLTs across different services. You will also be part of a wider SLT team at Homerton Hospital and be able to join in shared CPD, access videofluoroscopy clinics and the development of study days for multidisciplinary colleagues. All services strongly support continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job- To work across stroke, community and inpatient acute as part of a rotational programme.
- Be responsible for a designated caseload of clients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties.
- Participate in the delivery of a Saturday service when on hospital based rotations and help support patients' recreational programmes by occasionally working evenings.

Person specification Education Qualifications- Degree level or equivalent qualification in SLT recognised by the RCSLT.
- Current HCPC Registration
- Membership of RCSLT
- Full UK Licence to Practise Postgraduate training in dysphagia
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with patients presenting with communication/swallowing problems of neurological origin
- Ability to form therapeutic relationships with others who may be under stress and have complex challenging communication difficulties including behavioural and cognitive difficulties.
- Demonstrate empathy with patients, relatives, carers and colleagues ensuring effective communication is achieved particularly where barriers to understanding exist
- Demonstrate highly developed auditory and perceptual skills e.g. phonetic transcription, linguistic and acoustic analysis and be able to use these in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Able to set patient centred and SMART goals.
- Able to reflect and adapt practice to suit needs of individual patients.
- Excellent oral and written communication and reporting skills.
- Analysis and clinical reasoning skills.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Windows applications.
- Ability to manage caseload and prioritise under pressure.

- Experience of caseload management of patients with acquired neurological disorders this may include student placement experience
