Our hard-working, talented, and dedicated people work together towards a common goal - to always put our Patient First. In fact, our mission is summed up by our 'where better never stops' motto, and you will play a part in driving us forwards and in improving the lives of patients across Sussex.

At UHSussex, diversity is our strength, and we want you to feel included to help us always put the Patient First. We have a range of Staff Networks to help break down barriers, and can offer a buddy to help new members settle in. We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and a Veteran Aware Trust.

We treat our patients and staff with the same compassion and empathy we expect for ourselves. We're here for them when they need us, and we go above and beyond to meet their needs. This can be seen in our Wellbeing Programme for staff, which is extensive and designed to support you when you need it, including where possible, flexible working to support work-life balance.

Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, caring, and compassionate registered general nurse (RGN) to join our friendly Outpatient team at Princess Royal General Outpatients Department (OPD). You will be working in a supportive team, delivering high-quality patient-centred care.

We are looking for a personable individual who has excellent interpersonal skills and who is able to deliver holistic nursing care across the different clinics. You must be able to work collaboratively to facilitate effective and efficient care delivery in the MDT environment. OPD has a clinical practice educator who will provide support and encouragement for you to learn and develop any necessary skills. There will also be ongoing support from senior staff who will encourage and facilitate personal development. Previous experience in an OPD setting is desirable, but not essential as a bespoke induction programme will be developed to support the successful candidate to become a competent and effective OPD nurse.

You will be based at Princess Royal Hospital, although staff are required to be flexible and adaptable, as occasionally you may be asked to work a shift at another BSUH OPD site such as Lewes, Brighton, or Hove.

Main duties of the job We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship, we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

You will need excellent communication and time management skills, and be a highly motivated individual who possesses the relevant knowledge and skills required to deliver evidence-based high-quality care to our patients.

Main duties and responsibilities:
  • To deliver safe, competent, and compassionate care to all patients attending clinic, and also extending this compassionate care to family and carers.
  • To work effectively unsupervised, and be a collaborative team player.
  • To deputise in the absence of senior staff to ensure continuity of care for patients attending the Outpatient Department.
  • To run and support a variety of medical, surgical, and nurse-led clinics.
  • To assess patients holistically, and refer or delegate appropriately to multi-disciplinary teams, as required.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager and team in meeting divisional goals and speciality targets.
  • Be forward-thinking, well-organised with a positive attitude towards flexibility and change.
  • Plan and deliver care and investigations to patients using existing or acquired skills such as OPD specific Ophthalmology skills, Fibro scanning, urinalysis, and wound care dressings.
