As a UK Tax Expert, you will contribute to the management of tax compliance and reporting tasks, while providing ad hoc support for advisory or M&A activity, as required.

You will be part of a growing UK Tax team, but also working closely with highly competent Accounting Managers supporting all of our business areas and assets, and will interact with a broad range of both internal and external stakeholders.

There will also be opportunities for international travel, as the UK is a key part of the wider Global Tax Team. The Team consists of a diverse group with experiences from different Business Areas located across the UK. The UK tax team is growing, currently consists of 4 people but is part of a large International Tax Team with a broad range of tasks. There are many opportunities to interact and network with other members of the team, both virtually and in-person. We provide ongoing development and learning opportunities, allowing for growth both within Tax and the wider organization.

What will my tasks be?

Within this position, your key tasks will be to:

  • Driving the UK corporation tax compliance process (with support from external providers), including the electricity generation levy and energy profits levy.
  • Provide guidance for other areas of UK tax compliance and governance requirements, such as the Senior Accounting Officer regime, as well as establishing new processes and controls within the UK tax function.
  • Lead on aspects of our quarterly tax reporting process.
  • Support the finance team with the preparation of the statutory tax disclosures.
  • Analyse and solve, as required in areas such as, R&D claims, transfer pricing, advisory projects or M&A transactions.
  • Contribute more widely to the success of a great UK and international tax team, working collaboratively with stakeholders and enjoying being part of enabling the energy transition.
Here's what we expect from you:

At Equinor, there are some overall qualities we regard as essential. We want you to identify with the values that guide our decisions and help us succeed and grow: open, collaborative, courageous and caring. We expect you to make safety your priority and to contribute to our zero-harm culture. And for this specific position, we are also looking for:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Accounting or Tax education and/or a professional tax qualification (e.g. ACA, CTA).
  • Relevant post-qualification experience working in a mixed accounting/tax environment with the Big 4 or similar corporate function.
  • The ability to identify complex issues, understanding the consequences and knowing when to escalate for support.
  • A strategic thinker, with an analytical, structured and systematic approach.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, to allow collaboration within Equinor, and the ability to partner with peers and other stakeholders.
