This role involves assisting with the management of the group's VAT and indirect tax matters and the implementation of improvements to the end-to-end VAT process. The indirect tax manager will report to the associate director for indirect tax and will be supported by an indirect tax assistant. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of indirect tax principles, both in the UK and overseas. This is a hands-on role in the sense of working with others to improve VAT processes and is not a pure advisory role.
You'll be responsible for:
- Overseeing the preparation, review and submission of VAT returns alongside third-party providers, ensuring timely and accurate filings across multiple jurisdictions.
- Liaising with treasury on VAT forecasting to ensure the timely and accurate payment of liabilities/timely allocation of VAT refunds.
- Assisting in the review and improvement, with the finance transformation team, of the end-to-end VAT process from invoice to return and managing the implementation of identified changes.
- Assisting with making our Oracle ERP system compliant with local VAT/sales tax laws in a more efficient way.
- Ensuring that VAT issues identified as part of tax authority audits are resolved.
- Assisting with requests for advice from the business in both the UK and overseas.
- Providing support and training to non-accountants within the business on VAT and CIS requirements, and to those involved in processing purchase and sales invoices.
You'll need to have:
- Knowledge of VAT accounting and control checks, including balance sheet VAT reconciliations.
- Up-to-date knowledge of Indirect tax rules both in the UK and overseas, and demonstrable technical competence in areas relevant to the role.
You'll also have:
- Degree-level accounting qualification (ACA or ACCA), tax qualification (ATT/CTA), or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience with Oracle is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; the ideal candidate will enjoy using their initiative.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Solid experience within the construction industry and around supplies connected with immovable property is desirable but not essential.
