Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Director to join our South West team. You will have full responsibility for managing the Technical team, overseeing every stage of the design process, including the appointment and supervision of consultants, engagement with external stakeholders, and liaising with statutory authorities. You will also guide the selection and approval of materials, review construction detailing, check the designs of consultants and subcontractors for compliance and buildability, and ensure that business requirements are met throughout each project.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the design process from detailed development through to project completion, ensuring alignment with business requirements and contractor's proposals.
  2. Review and approve recommendations for consultant appointments, maintaining quality and cost-effectiveness.
  3. Ensure timely registration with warranty providers and Building Control and manage PD and PC roles under the Building Safety Act.
  4. Guarantee prompt completion and issuance of technical assessments, data, warranties, certificates, planning conditions, and related documents.
  5. Monitor and manage the Technical Department's budget in line with group policy, meeting key milestones and cost targets.
  6. Identify and address contractual, financial, technical, and operational risks, while seeking opportunities to maximise gross profit.
  7. Champion efficient design solutions and encourage a value engineering approach to minimise waste and maintain quality.
  8. Review and sign off on tenders produced by the Technical Department to ensure consistency with project objectives.
  9. Cultivate a collaborative culture, offering guidance and support to ensure projects meet quality, time, and cost targets.
  10. Oversee and manage estate completion works to include adoptions and any associated handovers to management companies.

Desirable skills and experience:

  1. HNC/HND/Degree in a construction or design-related discipline
  2. Proven background in new build developments, including social/affordable housing.
  3. Demonstrable record of leading teams to deliver on time, within budget, and to exacting standards, achieving high customer satisfaction.
  4. Ability to identify and resolve complex issues, with a keen eye on cost-efficiency.
  5. Confident in making swift, informed decisions within defined authority levels.
  6. Comprehensive understanding of UK building regulations and construction standards.
  7. Full UK Driving Licence is required.
