Job Description

Job Title: Data Engineer - Estates and Facilities

Location: Central London - 5 days onsite

Contract: 2 year fixed term contract

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and improvement of technical spaces, including data centres, server rooms, and communication hubs
  • Ensure that critical infrastructure, such as HVAC systems, UPS, and fire suppression systems, are operating optimally and meet industry standards
  • Review, evaluate, and approve works carried out, ensuring adherence to project specifications, safety protocols, and statutory compliance
  • Provide technical sign-off on critical systems work, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC and BMS
  • Implement and maintain environmental monitoring systems to ensure compliance with temperature, humidity, and power requirements
  • Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and capacity planning for all technical spaces
  • Ensure all equipment (servers, switches, and network hardware) is housed and maintained according to regulatory and manufacturer guidelines
  • Perform technical space fit-out projects, refurbishments, and upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption to operations
  • Develop and maintain as-built documentation, ensuring all changes to technical spaces are recorded accurately
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations, industry standards, and internal policies
  • Liaise with Estates, Facilities, and IT teams to align technical space management with organizational objectives
  • Collaborate with security teams to ensure technical spaces comply with physical security policies and access control measures

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in managing critical technical spaces, including data centres or server rooms
  • Previous experiences working alongside an Estates and Facilities team
  • Understanding of relevant standards, such as ISO 27001, ASHRAE, and other data centre regulations
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems
  • Experience with DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) platforms
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Knowledge of cabling standards, network infrastructure, and rack layouts
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile)
