This role has multiple vacancies including both Days and 3 shifts as shown above.

Overview of role

London Underground is one of the world's most famous metro systems and is responsible for more than 3.5 million passenger journeys a day. It has 11 lines covering 402km and serving 270 stations. During peak hours, more than 500 trains are in operation.

We are looking to recruit Train Maintainers to be responsible for the day to day and major electrical / mechanical maintenance of EV Rolling Stock, Plant and Equipment to specified standards of safety, quality, and reliability in order to meet the units service requirements to ensure EV Fleet is delivered as per the customer requirements.

Key Accountabilities
  • Use tools, plant, and equipment in accordance with safety standards and prescribed working methods.
  • Carry out all electrical and mechanical tasks, ensuring standards of work comply with good mechanical and electrical working practices.
  • Carrying out maintenance duties allocated to the team and as directed by the Duty Manager/Team Leader.
  • Carry out Rolling Stock testing procedures and fault diagnostic duties when appropriate.
  • Carry out all train repairs and maintenance as detailed in the work instructions and to company specifications.
  • Comply with all company rules and regulations, including the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH regulations, and the 1990 Rule Book & Appendices and LUL Safety Directive 504.
  • Checking and monitoring own work.
  • Ensuring keeping up to date with all service bulletins and new procedures.
  • Ensuring that Quality systems are adhered to at all times.
  • Contributing to the team and continuous development to improve the skill base of the department.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience

All points are essential unless stated otherwise.

Skills
  • Ability to read and translate schematic and technical drawings is an advantage for some specialised roles.
  • Proven ability to carry out basic mechanical and electrical tasks including correct use of tools and equipment.
  • Proven ability to use train controls and operate associated equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Managers and other members of staff to ensure an understanding of Rules & management Instruction.
  • A full UK driving licence.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Train Maintenance, such as brakes, traction motors, routine and Planned Maintenance packages is an advantage. (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical work practices, use of tools with reference to security of equipment and electrical work practices.
  • Basic Knowledge of train equipment in the following areas: brakes, traction control auxiliary equipment to include high voltage power systems.
  • Knowledge of Company Safety Standards, Rules & Regulations, and those specifically applicable to EV maintenance (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of operating procedures within depots (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of team objectives and of personal role in that team.
  • Knowledge of company and team behaviour standard.
  • Knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
Experience
  • Basic fault finding and problem-solving experience.
  • Time served apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications with previous experience in mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Potential for obtaining certification for job skills and safety procedures as may be required.
