Job Description
Trainee patent attorney - Engineering/ Physics/ Electronics Cambridge

For more information on eligibility for a trainee role, please refer to our trainees page.

Role overview
We are seeking a trainee patent attorney to work on technologies including: mechanical engineering, electronics, medical devices, and control systems. The successful candidate will have a degree in engineering, physics or similar.

The role will start in autumn 2025 and be based in our Cambridge office. Our flexible working policy requires trainees to be in the office for at least two days per week and enables trainees to work from home for up to three days per week, should they wish.

Our trainee programme provides a superb first step on your road to becoming a registered patent attorney and European patent attorney.

You will have direct contact with clients from the start, you will be working on real cases and be working alongside partners who have a stellar reputation.

Our training programme isn't set to a timeline. You are not on a conveyor belt with expectations that you sit and pass exams at the same time as your contemporaries. Instead, we flex the training to match your strengths, meaning you don't have to sit the qualifying exams in a particular order or at a particular time.

Quality is at the heart of our training. Your success is our success.

Requirements

  • At least 136 UCAS points from your post-16 qualifications.
  • You will either be in the final year of your degree or have graduated. You must be predicted or have obtained at least a 2:1 degree.
  • Your degree must be in engineering, physics or a related subject.
  • For international students, we will expect the equivalent national qualifications.
