Job overview

We are looking for resident doctors to join our enthusiastic and motivated Emergency Department Team for 6 -12 months to start ASAP.

You would be working at the level of a CT1/ST1 in the ED with direct shop floor supervision from our 20 consultants and 10 experienced ED middle grades. The post offers protected weekly departmental teaching and benefits from educational supervision by a consultant as well as many other educational opportunities on shift. A typical day may see you involved in Stroke Thrombolysis, PPCI for STEMI, Trauma (as a busy Trauma Unit), acutely unwell medical and surgical patients as well as managing various Paediatrics complaints and Minor Injuries.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to assess patients, formulate a management plan and organise relevant investigations in a timely fashion. A senior will be on hand to provide guidance and will be checking in where necessary. You will also be expected to identify acutely unstable patients and raise this concern to seniors and then assist in stabilising these patients. You will have the opportunity to see a variety of patients with varying presenting complaints and of all ages and work in all areas of the department. It is a hugely interesting and rewarding job. You will have opportunities to perfect and learn various procedures relevant to Emergency Medicine. You will work within a multidisciplinary team within the department as well as liaise with different specialities and staff both medical and non-medical therefore good communication skills and teamwork are essential.

Person specification Experience
  • 24 months of working post graduation at foundation level or above
  • Experience working in an emergency department for at least 4 months
  • Experience working in an acute medical speciality at ST1 level or above
  • Experience of working in the NHS or equivalent healthcare system
Skills
  • Ability to perform the 15 core skills as per GMC requirements for foundation years
  • Completed MRCEM or equivalent exam
Engagement with QI
  • Evidence of involvement in an audit project or a quality improvement project
  • Formal training course in QI. Leading a QI.
Teaching
  • Evidence of involvement in teaching students, postgraduates and other professionals
  • Formal teaching qualification. Evidence of participation in teaching course.
Employer certification / accreditation badges

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
