Skills & Experience:
  • Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of local, regional and central government governance, decision-making frameworks, and statutory responsibilities.
  • Awareness of contemporary issues affecting local, regional and central government and public services.
  • Proven experience in providing strategic and operational support to senior leaders , preferably in a public sector or political environment.
  • Proven experience of leading in a complex environment , in particular in a complex partnership setting.
  • Exceptional organisational and communication skills, capable of managing complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex agendas, governance processes, and high-priority actions.
What's involved with this role: We're looking for a UK Mayors Network Policy Lead to join the Strategy team. In this role, you will oversee a small, efficient secretariat, providing executive and operational support to Mayors and Chief Executives across the UK Mayors (UKM) network. Your main focus will be ensuring the smooth operation of the network, managing resources, strengthening governance, and driving priority projects. You'll need strong strategic management skills, operational leadership experience, and political awareness to align resources with Mayoral and CEO priorities, while building effective relationships with key stakeholders. Key duties:
  • Lead the UK Mayors Network, reporting to the Chair of CEOs and Mayors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships between the Secretariat, network, government departments, and policy partners.
  • Develop and design a work plan to meet the network's ambitions.
  • Create policy proposals in collaboration with member authorities, ensuring balanced perspectives and positive outcomes.
  • Lead external communications, consult with member authorities on positioning, and support the Chair of the CEO network with relevant briefings.
