Amazon is seeking a European VAT manager with experience in European VAT to support the EMEA VAT advisory team. As part of a larger team, this position will involve tax research, giving VAT technical advice to business stakeholders, and working on tax and process automation projects.
Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe VAT manager will:
- provide VAT advice to various Amazon business stakeholders, including gleaning and consolidating European VAT advice/requirements, responding to small VAT queries;
- scan and research new tax laws and their impact on Amazon;
- work with technology teams on tax related automation projects and other process improvements.
- A team player who is confident in communicating with others and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Partner well with people at all levels within an organization.
- The ability to work in a team with a "can-do" attitude.
- The ability to demonstrate ownership, initiate and implement change with a problem-solving approach.
- Organized and methodical with strong attention to detail.
- Fluent written and verbal communications skills in English.
- Experience with tax technology tools and/or generative AI is helpful but not a requirement.
A day in the life includes:
- Assisting with the delivery of planning, real-time coordination, and communication of business projects with tax dependencies.
- Identifying process improvement opportunities and defining strategy to address them using your expertise and judgement to support decisions with financial, operational, or customer implications.
- Collaborating with tax, business, and tech partner teams, including drafting the appropriate level of documentation to support analyses performed, decisions made, and conclusions reached.
- Effectively communicating with and influencing partner teams.
- Supporting engagements with external advisors.
- Minimum 7 years experience in European VAT advisory, gained within a big4 consulting firm or in an in-house position.
- Tech savviness/keen interest in tax technology/automation.
- Recognized professional tax qualification, chartered accountant, or relevant legal degree.
- International VAT experience in both practice and industry (including B2B/B2G invoicing, B2B supply chain, domestic and cross-border supplies of goods and services).
- E-commerce/platform economy related experience.
