South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an innovative, compassionate and hard-working ward manager to lead Johnson PICU, a 10 bedded male acute ward in the Lewisham directorate.
The successful candidate will provide leadership and management support to a well-established, high performing, efficient team made up of staff who are keen to maintain high standards for patients experiencing acute mental health issues.
Johnson PICU is supported by a Matron, Service Manager and General Manager. Ward managers will often have day to day liaison with a wide range of on-site staff including the Patient flow coordinators, Patient flow lead, substance misuse lead, psychologists, quality improvement leads among others.
Main duties of the jobIn collaboration with the ward Consultant Psychiatrist, the successful candidate is expected to lead the ward team in providing high quality, compassionate nursing care and will be able to role model best practice and compliance with performance objectives. The post holder will also ensure that supervision and appraisal systems are robustly implemented and that staff are supported to ensure that the care provided is of the highest possible standard in line with the Trust's Mission.
Person specification Education/Qualifications- Registered Nurse (Mental Health) or Allied Health Professionals
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Experience of managing clinical practice at Band 6.
- Experience of implementing and monitoring standards of care.
- Experience of working with other client groups and of using a variety of models and approaches to care.
- Experience of implementing significant changes in working practices
- Specialist clinical knowledge relevant to the service, including evidence based practice.
- Working knowledge of all relevant legislation associated with acute mental health care, including MHA, CPA procedures, Human Rights Act, NSF, Child Protection and NHS Plan
- Knowledge of performance management procedures.
- Ability to negotiate and reach compromises in verbal discussions in a manner which inspires confidence and respect from others.
- Ability to manage own time effectively and to produce pieces of work on time and to a high standard.
- Appreciation of the complexities of variety of the Ward Manager's role and how to balance clinical and non-clinical responsibilities.
