Optegra has an exciting new job opportunity for an experienced Ward Nurse to join our amazing and supportive team in our prestige private North London Eye Hospital, located in Colindale. This role is part-time, two days each week (20 hours). This is a great opportunity to join a growing and developing business and benefit from our fantastic fully funded training programs.
Main duties of the jobThe job holder will be responsible for participating in all aspects of the Ophthalmic service at Optegra, including surgery. Provide excellent care to all patients, with specific responsibility for diagnostic testing, pre-operative assessment, peri-operative and post-operative care in the surgical and refractive suite of the hospital and assisting with minor operations.
Job responsibilities- Use clinical judgement and analytical skills to pro-actively identify potential problems during the patient's clinical pathway that require Consultant / Surgeon input.
- Work with the multi-disciplinary team supporting them and delivering excellent care to patients during their clinical pathway.
- Provide pre- and post-operative instructions to patients/carers through effective communication as part of the clinical competency framework and holistic care of patients.
- Provide clinical advice for patients, within level of competency.
- Administer drugs and treatments as prescribed according to the NMC guidelines for the Standards for Medicines Management 2008.
- Ensure effective communication is maintained with patients, relatives, carers, visitors, staff and others.
- Provide initial emergency care within level of competency and training.
- Help to control and minimise the risk of cross infection by following the organisation's Uniform Policy, and all procedures, policies and guidelines for the maintenance of a clean working environment, including decontamination and sterilisation of equipment.
- Assist with the organisation of notes and hospital lists to ensure safe and smooth running of hospital schedules.
- Ensure that all clinical documentation is completed legibly and comprehensively to agreed organisational and NMC standards and guidelines.
- Observe patient confidentiality at all times, in accordance with the Data Protection Act (1998), Caldicott principles (2013-updated) and the organisational standards for Information governance.
- Act as a mentor to team members, fostering growth and development.
- Provide support for training and skill-building initiatives.
- Maintain awareness of policies and procedures relevant to the role.
- Ensure strong adherence to established pathways and protocols.
- Assist the clinical lead with additional duties as required.
- Be a Registered General Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner
- Have a current NMC/ODP registration with no restrictions
- Previous experience in an Ophthalmology Theatre
- A qualification in Ophthalmology or Peri-operative care
- Experience working in a nursing team - minimum 12 months (recent)
- Previous experience in Ophthalmology Theatre
£30,000 to £38,000 a year. Pension, 33 Days Annual Leave, Private Healthcare, Free laser eye.
