About the role
HDR are currently engaged in several programme level scopes plus preconstruction activities for various projects across Europe. The position will enable the right candidate to line manage several project managers. Our record of successful delivery of some major campuses across Europe puts us in a strong position to secure ongoing work at those campuses as well as new developments across Europe.
Primary Objective
The primary objective of the Account Director is to see that the processes involved in the commissioning of engineering services systems have been diligently and accurately planned, managed, executed, recorded, and reported to our client. To maintain extensive day-to-day contact with the client senior team including Project Managers, local and Regional Commissioning Managers, providing status updates as required - at least on a weekly basis.
In the role of Account Director, we'll count on you to:
- Ensure our commitments to our clients are delivered on time, to requisite levels of detail and quality.
- Act as a key point of client contact.
- Actively promote HDR services within the account.
- Provide fee proposals for new projects in line with the agreed pricing model.
- Make full use of the company's management systems in achieving the primary objective.
- Take responsibility for project-related safety.
- Encourage project engineers to achieve a high level of performance.
- Report any performance problems to the line manager.
- Review on a monthly basis the Project Job Costing Reports with the project engineering team.
- Provide supporting information to inform the monthly board reporting process.
- Provide consultative advice in determining Quality and Commissioning and performance requirements, commissioning strategies, programmes, scopes of work, and the like.
- Manage a team of HDR engineers and/or managers, including undertaking personnel functions such as recruitment interviews and performance reviews in association with the Divisional Director or Director.
- Keep the account team abreast of developments and project opportunities with the account and wider business.
Key Responsibilities
- Act safely at all times in compliance with the Company's health and safety policy and procedures.
- Work diligently, efficiently, and professionally at all times.
- Act as a key point of contact for project-related client teams.
- Maintain positive relationships with other staff and professional team members.
- Ensure technical compliance and high-quality production of our deliverables.
- Work closely as part of the client's team in developing Quality and Commissioning strategies and processes which align fully with project objectives.
- Fully adopt the Company's project and internal management systems to ensure that the building services are fully commissioned in accordance with the contract documentation.
- Maintain an accurate awareness of project finances and control expenditure thereof.
- Attend project meetings as required.
- Attend and contribute to Cx summits as required.
- Prepare reports that include technical content and progress/key issue detail. Alternatively, sign off/authorise for publication similar documentation authored by other members of the HDR commissioning team.
- Develop project-specific commissioning management/validation documents and procedures.
- Be aware and report internally on project scope change.
- Work with other members of a professional team in evaluating progress, difficulties, and costs.
- Assist in the development of tender submissions within the account and other potential clients as requested.
- Accurately complete timesheets on a weekly basis.
- Pro-actively support other members of staff in undertaking their work.
Profile
Candidates will be experienced Building Services Engineers with a particular interest and/or skill set in commissioning. This could be either by direct experience of setting systems to work or by managing the process in working for a contractor or competitor. Candidates will be expected to have a high level of technical competence in one or more of the following areas:
- Mechanical systems
- HV distribution
- HVAC balancing
- LV distribution
- QA Management
- Sustainability
- UPS
Preferred Qualifications
- 4 years of industry experience dealing with mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
- Proven ability to lead commissioning efforts from design through project completion.
- Passion for sustainability and knowledge of the commissioning process and experience with design, installation, and operation of building systems (including but not limited to: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and controls).
- Willingness to travel within the UK and abroad regularly and potentially for extended durations to meet the needs of the projects.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot HVAC, TAB, and Controls and have excellent report writing skills.
- Solid understanding of operational requirements, safety requirements, code inspections, and maintenance considerations.
- Strong written, verbal communication, and time management skills; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact with people at all levels.
- Technical knowledge of MEP systems and HVAC expertise.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Multitasking ability.
- Valid driver's license.
Professional qualifications are a benefit but not a prerequisite. Experience (technical and managerial), tact, diplomacy, and good organizational skills are considered essential. An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture is a must.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- 10 years of related experience.
- A minimum of 5 years project management experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience would be a plus).
- Demonstrated leadership, business development, and strategic planning skills.
