0.4 WTE Permanent Band 7 Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated dietitian to join the Paediatric Diabetes Team at the Royal Alexandra's Children's Hospital.

This post provides expert management of children with Diabetes across Brighton & Hove and mid-Sussex as part of a very well supported Paediatric Diabetes MDT. This role includes cover to the clinics and wards at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital as well as home and community visits in Brighton/Hove and mid-Sussex. Occasional clinic cover at Princess Royal Hospital may be required.

The post is based with the Paediatric Diabetes Team at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital site in Brighton. You would work alongside two other highly experienced Paediatric Diabetes Dietitians and so there is scope to provide full training in diabetes for the right candidate. You would be part of a very well-respected, highly knowledgeable team of 10 experienced Paediatric Dietitians, as well as working integrally as a valued member of our progressive Paediatric Diabetes MDT.

Main duties of the job

Working with the paediatric multidisciplinary diabetes team to provide support, education and training to children and young people with diabetes and their carers.

To work collaboratively with the other band 7 paediatric diabetes dietitians to ensure the delivery of a high quality nutritional and dietetic service to paediatric patients with diabetes, including delivery of the dietetic element of the Best Practice tariff.

Provide training and education and act as an expert resource in diabetes to patients, carers and other health care professionals in both inpatient, outpatient and community settings. This includes working in both hospital sites (Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital) and community settings in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex and mid-Sussex.

Provide training to undergraduate Dietitians, supervising their clinical placements.

Participate in continuing professional development, audit and research within this specialist area to further best practice.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Dietetics Degree or Post Graduate Diploma
  • HCPC Registration
  • BDA Paediatric Modules
Experience
  • Substantial clinical dietetic experience in a range of inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Paediatric and/or Diabetes experience
  • Teaching experience with patients / health care professionals
  • Previous experience of clinical supervision of student dietitians
Skills
  • Good written, verbal communication and presentation skills with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to work as a team member, including within an MDT
  • Managing patients with complex needs
  • Ability to motivate self and others
