An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Advanced Practitioner in Histological Dissection to join us in the SHYPS network working on the Hull site in Cellular Pathology.

This is a full time role which will require an element of flexibility on a day to basis.

Main duties of the job

As an Advanced Practitioner in Histological Dissection, the post holder will be responsible for supervising and performing a wide range of complex scientific procedures which result in interpretation of biological samples that contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and the investigation of other pathological processes.

Reporting directly through line management to Consultant Histopathologists, the Advanced Practitioner will be deemed to be competent in the areas of specimen description, dissection and sampling of specimens that fall within the RCPath designation of category B and C specimens and understand the clinical impact of that practice.

After completion of the Diploma of Expert Practice and with a minimum of six months' experience, training will be extended to include cancer resection specimen following an in-house training program.

The post holder will be directly involved with the development and review of Standard Operating Procedures within their designated area. The post holder will also undertake analytical, technical and administrative troubleshooting to ensure reliable service delivery.

Person Specification Experience and Knowledge

• Minimum of 5 year's post registration experience in all areas of laboratory practice.
• Minimum of 2 year's experience of specimen dissection (BMS cut-up).
• Comprehensive knowledge and skills of a Cellular Pathology department.
• Experience in training and mentoring.

Qualifications and Training

• BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences or alternative equivalent with top up.
• Registration with the HCPC.
• MSc in Biomedical Sciences or FIBMS or MIBMS equivalent.
• Diploma in Expert Practice in Histological Dissection (or prepared to undertake this).
