The salary attached to this 4-day/0.8FTE role is Teachers' Pay Range (Fringe) between £45,344 - £50,471 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) with an SEN allowance of between £2,679 and £5,285 dependent on whether the successful applicant holds the Post Graduate Diploma in Deaf Education (a mandatory qualification for Teachers of deaf children and young people).
We in Physical and Sensory Support (PSS) are excited to be recruiting an Advisory Teacher of the Deaf to join our fantastic team. PSS is a county-wide team sitting within Children, Families and Lifelong Learning, and currently under Education and Lifelong learning.

About the Role
PSS is a team including Teachers and Specialist Teaching Assistants, working in home and school settings. As an Advisory Teacher of the Deaf (ATOD), you will be working with deaf children and young people across the range of ability between the ages of 0 and 19 (as well as their families, teachers and other involved professionals).
As an ATOD with PSS, and being a qualified Teacher, you will bring your recent teaching experience and extensive knowledge of special needs and disability to the role, delivering a statutory service to vulnerable children and young people. If you do not hold the Post Graduate Diploma in Deaf Education, you will be enrolled for a funded two-year, part-time university course commencing September 2026.
Shortlisting Criteria
To be shortlisted to interview for this position, your application will give clear evidence of:
- A teaching qualification showing QTS
- Your commitment to, and knowledge and recent experience of, working with deaf children and young people and/or children and young people with additional needs and disability
- Your experience of working within a team and the positive contribution you have made
- A willingness to undertake a funded, 2-year post-graduate course in deaf education
- If you are an experienced, qualified Teacher and think this could be the role for you, we look forward to receiving your application
