Role: Anaesthetic and Recovery Theatre Practitioner

Location: The Portland Hospital
Hours: Permanent, Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Shifts: Monday to Sunday, Occasional Saturdays, 4 days per week, Early (07:30-16:00), Late (12:30-21:00) and long days (07:30-21:00)

We are looking for an Anaesthetic and Recovery Theatre Practitioner to join our Theatre department. The Portland Hospital is part of the established leading private healthcare company, HCA Healthcare. Established for over 50 years.

The Portland Hospital is the only private hospital in the UK dedicated to the healthcare of women and children. We're the UK's largest private children's hospital with over 46 paediatric beds including a 10-bed intensive care unit, a neonatal intensive care unit, and a day case unit. We have over 175 paediatric consultants available to treat children from new-born up to the age of 18.

Both consultant-led and midwife-led maternity care is available, and our aim is to provide you with all the support you need during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond.

The four theatres at Portland provide a vibrant, exciting and professional environment where the advanced equipment and technology is second to none and includes fully integrated and equipped theatres.

The theatre team comprises of Consultants and Practitioners who have vast experience and knowledge across a range of specialties. There are many complex procedures carried out daily, across a range of acute specialities, including Gynae & Obstetrics, as well as general and paediatric surgery.

What you will do:

  1. Prepare the Anaesthetic room according to the individual needs of the patient and Anaesthetist and surgery being undertaken.
  2. Support with the assessment, planning delivery and evaluation of patient care.
  3. Preparing patients and providing assistance for clinical/operative procedures while supporting across all areas of our theatres.
  4. Prepare a wide range of specialist equipment and drugs, including anaesthetic machines, intravenous equipment and devices that safely secure the patient's airway during anaesthesia.
  5. Monitoring Vital Signs and pain management after surgery.

What you will bring:

  1. Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner
  2. Current HCPC Registration/NMC Registration / NMC Pin
  3. Anaesthetic or Recovery experience working in an Operating Theatre.
  4. Effective communication and strong interpersonal skills
  5. Able to work as part of a team in an operating Theatre
