ASSISTANT BUILDING SURVEYOR
SURREY
SALARY UP TO £40K!

This innovative construction consultancy firm is looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Building Surveyor to join their fantastic team. You will play a major part in supporting your team on a range of works and projects.

Responsibilities for the Assistant Building Surveyor:

  1. Execute and coordinate work as directed by senior staff
  2. Undertake work with minimum supervision
  3. Able to prepare sketch plans, working drawings, specifications
  4. Undertake inspections on a range of building defects and prepare written reports detailing your findings, causes of the defect and recommendations for repair.
  5. Assist with planning site investigation works
  6. Assist with preparing feasibility studies and providing design advice
  7. Assist with the development and use of computer-based systems to improve efficiency
  8. Undertake site inspection, attend site meetings and produce meeting minutes
  9. Produce designs, assessments and reports in accordance with quality procedures
  10. Liaise effectively with clients, other design team members and third parties
  11. Work within the given programme and cost constraints


Requirements of the role:

  1. University degree in building surveying or equivalent
  2. Good understanding of surveying and construction principles and methods
  3. Good interpersonal skills
  4. Good communication skills
  5. Proactive approach to work
  6. Ability to work with minimum supervision
  7. Commitment to continual improvement at a personal and company level
  8. A good understanding of different construction methods and building materials, contract procedures, landlord and tenant matters and the Party Wall Act 1996 etc.
  9. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel
  10. Working towards or recently achieved MRICS status
  11. Knowledge of different methods of construction and building materials
  12. Understanding of CDM Regulations, Building Regulations, Party Wall Act and planning law
  13. Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge, and be able to identify a range of building materials and defects commonly affecting buildings of both traditional and non-traditional construction i.e. defects in concrete, brickwork, timber, etc
  14. Ability to write detailed and comprehensive reports on building related defects, identifying cause and recommendations for repair.
