ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH (REMOTE)
ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY-NEWPORT
The Associate Director of Institutional Research works directly with the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness to move the institution forward in accessing and using accurate and reliable data to become a data informed decision-making institution. This position will be responsible for extracting, analyzing, and interpreting a wide range of data to support executive leadership queries and compliance reporting. The Associate Director of Institutional Research will also be integral in creating and documenting processes within the IR/IE office for efficiency, scalability, and sustainability in the future.
This position functions within a close collaboration office where strong communication and shared responsibilities are a must. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to multi-task and work effectively with others while having very little oversight. They must also be able to adapt quickly to change and thrive in an atmosphere of mutual trust and transparency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, document, and maintain processes and procedures for institutional data quality and integrity including data definitions.
- Collaborate with other departments and personnel to create and enforce data standards, definitions, coding, and internal reporting.
- Assist the Director in gathering, preparing, and submitting data to federal, state, system and ad hoc reporting entities (e.g. IPEDS, Arkansas Division of Higher Education, Arkansas State University System Reporting).
- Validate and report data to the National Student Clearinghouse.
- Aid in the continuous improvement of IR/IE processes to build scalable and sustainable processes for the future.
- Work as a strategic thought partner across campus to encourage data literacy and data informed decision-making.
- Communicate with institutional employees to understand business reporting needs and develop reports for self-service data in ARGOS.
- Provide training and technical support to institutional employees on customized reporting tools and various work processes.
- Actively participate in the Institutional Research (IR) community by attending professional development opportunities, assuming leadership roles when appropriate, and maintaining current knowledge of IR best practices and relevant government policies.
- Serve on special projects and complete additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in mathematics, economics, computer science, information management or statistics from an accredited institution of higher education and a minimum of 2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Higher Education experience preferred. The ideal candidate should be passionate about data analysis and creative in the application of the various tools and techniques of the trade in order to uncover new ways of looking at data.
EXPECTATIONS
Required knowledge of process and data modeling, data architectural development methodology and working knowledge of Oracle databases. Demonstrate competence in systems analysis and design and the ability to quickly learn and apply technologies. Effectively communicate complex data clearly and effectively to individuals and groups. Write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals so others will understand; Effectively present information and respond to questions from stakeholders. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats. Under the direction of the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, work within institutional policies and general directives. Refers specific cases to supervisor when clarification or interpretation of the organization's policy when needed. Considerable responsibility with regard to general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work as well as confidentiality for sensitive data. Responsibility of self-paced work in a remote environment. Perform work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of minor importance which would affect the work operations of the organization and the organization's customers. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated expertise in data analysis, process redesign, systems analysis and design and the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies. Responsible for basic office equipment assigned by the college.
SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED
Intermediate: Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced: Microsoft Excel, SQL, Coding Languages (e.g. Python, R), Oracle Database, Business Analytics tools.
