Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the University Hospitals Dorset MSK Therapy Team for a part-time Band 7 Enhanced Practice Physiotherapist.

This role would involve working in a supported clinical role as a spinal interface clinician within the DMSK spinal service, using enhanced level of practice skills in the assessment, diagnosis and shared decision-making for patients with spinal pain or pathology. This post would be supported by our team of established spinal advanced practitioners and involve responsibilities for education and supervision within the wider MSK therapy team including clinical supervision.

Main duties of the job

To take a clinical leadership role in the delivery of therapy services to MSK therapy patients treated at University Hospitals Dorset and within the DMSK surgical interface service. This post will predominantly involve the delivery of outpatient clinical care for the spinal DMSK service.

The post holder will provide skilled leadership and responsibility for service development, the setting and monitoring of standards of practice and implement policy and policy changes in their clinical area. Furthermore, they will participate and lead quality improvement projects across MSK Therapy and make recommendations to the team and service leads.

Management support to continue learning, with support from both the MSK Therapy Service and DMSK leadership structures. This role involves enhanced practice, and the successful candidate will be supported in the training and delivery of enhanced practice skills to support their core practice. This may include imaging requesting and interpretation skills.

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Christchurch Hospital and Poole Hospital

UHD are investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed and developed following merger and the New Hospital Programme. In some cases this means that a service may move site this year or next, either temporarily or long-term. Person specification Qualifications
  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Continued professional development diary including evidence of reflective practice, in-service training and courses attended
  • Post-graduate courses relevant to the clinical specialty
  • Recognised post-graduate qualification e.g. MSc or equivalent experience
  • Post-graduate courses or experience in leadership
  • NHS QI or research qualification
  • Achieved or working towards independent prescriber registration
  • Previous experience as a Non-Medical referrer for imaging
Experience
  • Broad range of experience at Band 5 level
  • Experience at Band 6 level
  • Experience of managing other therapists
  • Audit, research and quality improvement
  • Student supervision/clinical education
  • Previous experience at Band 7 level
  • Evidence of leading robust service improvements
  • Specialist experience in managing complex spinal MSK pathologies
Skills
  • Skills for the assessment and treatment for a range of complex conditions
