Business Manager, NIHR BioResource for Translational Research

The NIHR BioResource seeks an experienced Business Manager to lead and innovate across our Finance, Marketing, HR, and Procurement teams. This pivotal role will ensure operational excellence, drive strategic initiatives, and contribute to transformative health research outcomes.

NIHR BioResource is a unique and powerful resource for studying disease mechanisms and for investigating the links between genes, the environment, health and disease, enabling scientific discoveries as well as facilitating translational medicine for the benefit of patients.
The Business Manager will lead the Finance, Business Administration & HR, Marketing & Communications, and Procurement & Contracts teams, comprising a total of 12 people, with 4 team managers.
Reporting directly to the NIHR BioResource Director and serving as a key member of the Senior Management Team, the Business Manager will shape strategy, oversee operations, and provide leadership to ensure the BioResource achieves its ambitious goals.
The role is integral to advancing the BioResource's mission, enabling health research that improves lives and reduces health inequalities.

- Proven experience in high-level strategy and operational leadership
- Strong financial expertise, including budget oversight
- Excellent organisational, managerial, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to initiate ideas, adapt flexibly to evolving needs, and prioritise effectively
- Experience leading teams in complex environments

This appointment is full-time, 37 hours per week; part-time to 80% will be considered. Work-life balance is important, and we are open to discussion on flexible working, including hybrid working.
Our offices are on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus CB2 0QQ (approximately 2 miles south of the city centre).
The post is available on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2029 in the first instance. NIHR BioResource is funded by the National Institute for Health & Care Research (NIHR) on a 5-year funding cycle.
