Job overview An exciting opportunity to join the GP-led Youth Clinic in Lewisham, an innovative service which is an integrated primary care and mental health service for young people aged 13-25.

We have a vacancy for a Band 7, based in our community clinics in Lewisham and CAMHS CWP Team.

The overall aim of the GP-led Youth Clinic is to increase access to high-quality primary care and mental health services for young people in their community.

The second part of the role is to function as a specialist in CYP-IAPT principles and practice for the recruitment to train Child Well Being Practitioners (CWPs) initiative.

Main duties of the job You will be responsible for the provision of assessments, formulation, and evidence-based intervention for young people aged 13-18. Aiming to intervene early through evidence-based interventions and cooperation with community organizations.

You would work with mild to moderate mental health difficulties by providing emotional and practical support through a variety of approaches including evidence-based therapeutic work, psychoeducation, play and/or art, and psychoeducation for families. Liaising with our GPs, schools, other statutory services, and the voluntary sector within the community.

You will manage your caseload and provide specialist intervention to young people and families who do not meet the mainstream CAMHS threshold. You play one of the crucial roles in bridging some gap between mainstream CAMHS and CWP teams as well as clinical and community settings.

You will be taking part in triage meetings and screening referrals made by GPs, as well as supporting the allocation of cases within the GP-led Clinic team. At the Lewisham CWP team as a CAMHS Specialist Practitioner, you are responsible for leading and supervising a small team of Children Wellbeing Practitioner team and trainees as well as supporting the team in triaging cases and offering support as a duty clinician.

You will clinically work within the community on a defined caseload in conjunction with SLaM CAMHS providing psychological assessment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities As the CAMHS Specialist Practitioner, you will work four days per week at the GP youth clinic sites, leading and supporting the development of the GP Youth clinic, bridging positive partnership and communication. The post-holder needs to work flexibly to meet the need for clinic time. Working with referred young people and seeing young people on a drop-in basis in the GP youth clinic.

At the CWP team, you will be responsible for leading and supervising a small team of Children Wellbeing Practitioner team and trainees as well as playing an important role in managing the delivery of the three functions of the CWP:
  • Sharing triage duty and screening incoming referrals for clinical suitability for the Children Wellbeing Practitioner team.
  • Supporting the senior mental health lead in supporting trainees and qualified CWPs' clinical work, ensuring the quality of care and safeguarding risks.
  • Alliance with other internal and external colleagues from other services, working in a multidisciplinary team in a diverse community.
Person specification Qualifications
  • Doctorate or MSc qualification in Clinical Psychology, Child Psychotherapy, or Family Therapy/Systemic Psychotherapy with extensive experience in using CBT as a treatment modality. First level nursing qualification/registration RMN or RNLD with formal Post Graduate Certificate/Diploma/MSc level qualification in CYP CBT.
  • All applicants - Healthcare Professional (HCP) professional registration NMC, HPC/HCPC, ACP, BPS, or UKCP.
  • Min 2 years CAMHS experience - NHS, private, or 3rd sector service.
  • Doctorate or MSc level qualification associated with child and adolescent mental health/strong CPD portfolio.
  • Formal DBT training and/or training in parenting intervention provision.
  • Experience in design and delivery of Workshops, groups, and interventions to patient target audience.
  • Formal training in clinical supervision, Pg Cert IAPT Supervision (CWP) or equivalent experience.
Experience
  • Experience and ability to function as a specialist practitioner in CAMHS.
  • Experience of working as a case manager in CAMHS using evidence-based practice.
  • Evidence of good practice in CAMHS assessments including assessing risk, behavior, performance, and family functioning.
  • Evidence of providing culturally adapted CAMHS interventions.
  • Evidence of experience of clinical governance, Outcome Measures, and audits.
  • Working with families in a diverse environment.
  • Experience of highly specialist CAMHS assessment and treatment.
  • Experience of undertaking qualitative and quantitative research methodology.
Knowledge / Skills
  • A good working knowledge of the following: Typical Mental Health disorders in CYPs.
  • Ability to assess and manage risk utilizing appropriate safeguards with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge of psychosocial theories of mental health and the evidence bases for the relevant treatment.
  • The information governance and new rules around GDPR as it relates to clinical confidentiality, information sharing, and academia.
  • Evidence of competency in clinical judgment.
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and CAMHS practice.
  • Evidence of organizational skills to deliver targets and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work flexibly within a changing environment.
  • Good IT skills and able to manage digital resources.
