Position: Chief Business Officer / Head of Business - Advanced Plastic Recycling

Location: Remote, with travel across key regions (Europe, USA, Middle East)

Salary Package: Attractive fix +potential equity or success-based incentives

Company Overview:

Our client is pioneering a breakthrough technology in chemical plastic recycling, aimed at producing virgin-quality polymers from non-recyclable plastic waste. Utilizing advanced methods like heterogeneous catalysis and electromagnetic induction, our innovative process enables the high-volume production of olefins (ethylene, propylene) from waste, eliminating the need for traditional steam crackers. This technology is a game-changer for decarbonizing and circularizing polyolefin production in the petrochemical sector.

Now they are moving into the industrialization phase and are seeking a strategic leader to drive partnerships and commercialization efforts within the oil & gas and petrochemical industries.

Role Overview:

As the Chief Business Officer / Head of Business, you will be integral to driving the business development strategy and ensuring the commercialization and scale-up of our cutting-edge technology. You will focus on forging strategic partnerships, co-development agreements, and licensing deals within the petrochemical and oil & gas sectors. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead the creation of a business development roadmap and build a team to support the company's growth and technological deployment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Map and engage key industry stakeholders, including steam cracker operators, waste management firms, licensors, EPCs, and investors.

  • Develop and implement a business development strategy targeting major oil & gas and petrochemical players.

  • Identify decision-makers, technical experts, and influencers within target organizations and create tailored engagement strategies.

  • Lead commercial discussions and negotiations for joint development agreements (JDA), memoranda of understanding (MoU), and technology licensing deals.

  • Drive co-development partnerships with enabling technology providers such as pyrolysis, catalysts, and induction systems.

  • Provide strategic market insights to guide business decisions and inform product-market fit.

  • Represent the company at international conferences, trade shows, and industry networks.

  • Collaborate across departments (R&D, engineering, operations, finance) to align commercial goals with technical capabilities.

  • Develop financial models and business cases to support investment decisions.

  • Lead and grow a team focused on waste management and business development.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • 10-20+ years of experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or commercialization roles within the petrochemical, oil & gas, or recycling industries.

  • Proven track record in closing complex B2B technology deals, including licensing, JV, and JDA, with international key accounts.

  • Strong network within the oil & gas and petrochemical industries, particularly with steam cracker operators.

  • Solid understanding of polymer chemistry, circular economy solutions, and refinery operations.

  • Strategic, entrepreneurial thinker with strong negotiation and relationship management skills.

  • Ability to adapt in fast-paced, evolving environments and manage complex stakeholder relationships across different regions.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts in simple, impactful terms.

  • Fluent in English, with frequent travel required.
