Home / Roles / Chief Executive Officer MCS Foundation

Do you believe in a future where everyone has access to reliable and affordable renewable energy in warm and efficient homes? Become The MCS Foundation's new CEO and lead the organisation to make this happen.

  • Location: Hybrid or remote - With extensive UK travel, including London and regular visits to Daresbury and Norwich offices

We are at the forefront of efforts to address climate change, working to decarbonise homes, heat and energy and to make every UK home carbon-free, acting as a catalyst for change. We are creating a future where everyone has access to reliable and affordable renewable energy in homes that are warm and efficient. Making this happen as quickly as possible drives all our work. The MCS Foundation helps convene partners, supports education and engagement programmes, funds research, facilitates innovative solutions and helps drive the transition to zero-carbon homes and buildings.

Our goal is to make every UK home-old or new-carbon-free, powered by renewables and energy that is affordable. This means examining both the renewable energy technology we install in our homes and the energy sources that supply them.

The MCS Foundation undertakes its work as follows:

  • Through grants and partnerships, driving and supporting innovative projects that will accelerate the decarbonisation of homes.
  • Overseeing the MCS Service Company, which defines, maintains and improves quality standards for renewable energy at building scale.
  • Through robust, independent research programmes and engagement with policymakers, advocating for impactful policy changes.
About the role.

We are recruiting a new Chief Executive Officer for The MCS Foundation.

This is a high-impact role for an individual motivated and determined to decarbonise homes, heat and energy. Someone who can bring their strategic skills and experience to an organisation working to overcome the many practical challenges of making net-zero emissions in homes and buildings a reality.

This is a golden opportunity to create a lasting positive impact that will be felt for generations to come.

Who we are looking for.

We seek a Chief Executive with a passion for environmental sustainability, social impact, and advancing renewable energy solutions.

We need an inspirational individual who can lead The MCS Foundation through its next phase of growth. Someone with strategic leadership skills and a track record of working across the charitable sector, business, or the public environment to convene and affect positive change for the greater good.

A leader who has significant charity, commercial, social enterprise and/or mission-driven growth leadership experience ideally within a hybrid not-for-profit and for-profit organisation. Someone who has created positive change by working with partners across sectors and uniting them with a shared ambitious vision that they can drive forward. This change needs to be at a policy and consumer level.

The new CEO will be forward-thinking and innovative, able to inspire stakeholders at all levels and on an individual as well as mass scale. They will be a figurehead for The MCS Foundation, and they will positively impact policy and consumers. The key relationships and partnerships for The MCS Foundation span a diverse range of stakeholders, including consumers and suppliers, government and policymakers, innovators, academics, industry experts and funders.

Strong board-level experience and good governance knowledge are also key because the new CEO will work effectively with and through both The MCS Foundation Trustee and Company Boards. In this role, they will need to be strategic and opportunistic so that they can lead the direction of travel but be alert to the constantly changing environment within which The MCS Foundation operates. They will also need to be able to translate ambition into action and empower others.
