Job overviewWe wish to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Emergency medicine. The post is for 6 - 12 months. The role will consist of 80% of time in the Emergency department, and 20% of the time undertaking specialist interest work.
Main duties of the jobFull Registration with the GMC is essential. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.
The Emergency Medicine part of the post is based at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. This is a regional Major Trauma Centre. It is also a specialist Stroke, Vascular surgery, Urology and Transplant centre.
The post is not educationally approved or recognised by the Royal College for training purposes but is educationally sound and well supported.
Candidates must have GMC registration that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training, and will ideally have Royal College Emergency Medicine membership +/- fellowship.
In addition to the above, there will be a supplement for out of hours working.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesClinical Experience 80%
This role participates in the 24-hour SHO/ST1-2 rota and benefits from 24-hour middle grade support. The post provides exposure and experience in acute presentations to the ED with rotations through all areas of the department; it is ideal for any candidate planning a career within Emergency Medicine or any acute specialty. It is also suitable for those wishing to pursue a career within General Practice.
Non Clinical 20%
The post includes 20% of non-clinical time. You will be asked to join one of our 'teams' working on different projects within the department.
- Ultrasound team - organising and delivering ultrasound training, developing ultrasound governance.
- Academic - organising and running a regular Journal Club, participating in promotion of and recruitment to ongoing trials within the department.
- Simulation - organising and running regular MDT sim training within the department, developing new sessions and disseminating learning from sim.
- Education - organising and delivering education predominantly to medical students rotating through the department.
- Sustainability - promoting 'Green ED' and working to improve our sustainable practice.
- Safeguarding - working with the Trust Safeguarding team, attending meetings and training, and promoting safe practice within the department.
- Reducing Community Violence - working with local youth charities to provide outreach and education to young people at risk of community violence.
If you have a strong passion about another activity/project that you would like to use your 20% time for, we are open to discussing it with you after your appointment.
For the 'teams' listed, if there is competition for the same roles, then allocation will be in order of ranking at interview (i.e. the 'top' ranked person gets first choice, and so on).
You will be asked to prepare a quarterly 'report' for your team, so that we can document and demonstrate the great work being accomplished in the department.
Person specification- Full registration with the GMC.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- At least 12 months' experience (at FY1/2 level) in appropriate posts.
- Experience working in NHS hospital.
- Experience in Anaesthesia, ICM or EM.
