Clinical Fellow in Ambulatory Medicine with a Special Interest in Ultrasound

Homerton Healthcare are looking to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Ambulatory Medicine with a Special Interest in Ultrasound. This post is at Homerton Healthcare, based in Hackney, East London; an exciting and challenging place with a diverse and richly multicultural population. Ambulatory Care is the delivery of emergency hospital care without admission to an acute inpatient bed. SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) manages patients requiring ongoing treatment or investigation that would otherwise have required admission is delivered either by scheduling return visits to the ambulatory service or by management on the same day. This includes seeing all stable GP and ED referrals to the medical take where further input is required but admission is not indicated.

The Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) is led by General Medicine and Emergency Medicine consultants. The unit is for adult patients of all ages with dedicated nursing, consultant, and junior doctors.

Job responsibilities

The postholder will have dedicated time to pursue other activities. This may include quality improvement, clinical informatics, education and simulation, specialty clinics/theatre, critical care experience for professional development. The nature of this specialty work is flexible, depending on the needs of the postholder and capacity of the service. This time will be incorporated into your pattern.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to work closely with highly skilled and knowledgeable consultants with opportunities to work in a service where quality improvement and iterative change are happening in a real-time but supported way. A wide range of pathology will be seen in the day to day working in the unit, providing experiences both challenging and varied.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MMBS or equivalent
  • Relevant higher degree MRCP part 1 or equivalent
Experience
  • 6 months experience in General or Acute Medicine at F2/ST(CT)
  • Experience of emergency medicine or ambulatory care
  • Experience of Surgery at F1/2/ST(CT)
Knowledge and Expertise
  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of junior doctors and non-medical staff.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles and evidence of participation in quality improvement projects
  • Good understanding of clinical governance
  • Presentations/Posters/ Publications
  • Completed quality improvement projects
  • Demonstrable experience in clinical governance
Personal Skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good communication and empathy skills
  • Evidence of willingness to participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment to provide an integrated service
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, both through communication and sharing workload
