An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist Band 7 to join the Paediatric Psychosocial Service (PPS), part of Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust (MFT) CAMHS which sits within the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

This is a brilliant opportunity for dedicated mental healthcare professionals to promote and improve the mental health and well-being of children and young people with physical health conditions and those who care for them.

We provide inpatient and outpatient support to patients with a wide range of physical health conditions on a local, regional, national and international basis. Working for the Paediatric Psychosocial Service at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, you'll work with children and young people aged up to 18 years and their families who present with a wide range of complex emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with physical health conditions.

You'll be supported to manage a defined caseload and have the responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children and young people. Roles also include consultation and liaison with medical teams.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the development, systematic provision and evaluation of a high-quality specialist clinical psychology service to patients within the North of England Epilepsy Surgery Service at RMCH and the NHS England Proton Beam Radiotherapy (PBT) Service at The Christie Hospital.

Responsibilities include:

1. Assessment and intervention with children, their families and adults, including specialist neuropsychological assessment
2. Liaison with the specialist medical teams in Epilepsy and PBT
3. Attendance at the multi-disciplinary Epilepsy clinics
4. Supervision of assistant psychologists
5. Liaison with other national principal treatment centres around the follow up and neuropsychological assessment of PBT patients
6. Work with schools and other community-based professionals working with children
7. Staff training
8. Consultation, support and provision of psychological advice
9. Working within professional guidelines
10. Utilising research skills for audit, policy and service development and research
11. Liaison and effective teamwork with staff from paediatric services, community health and education as appropriate

Person specification Qualifications

• You must have a recognised qualification in: Registered Nursing: RMN/RSCN/RNMH Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Counselling Psychology Social Work (CQSW/DipSW) Occupational Therapy. You must be registered with a professional body (e.g., NMC, UKCP, HCPC, BACP).

Experience and Knowledge

• Experience of providing evidence-based assessments, formulations and treatment packages to children, young people and families.
• Experience of working with children in paediatric health settings.
• Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Experience of consulting with healthcare and other professionals.
• Knowledge of legislation and national guidance in relation to the needs of children.
• Experience of assessing and managing risk, including safeguarding.
• Experience of caseload management working within a multi-disciplinary mental health setting.

Skills

• Ability to plan and prioritise own caseload.
• Ability to select, use and interpret a range of psychological measures including cognitive and developmental assessments.
• Ability to formulate clinical problems using psychological theory.
• Ability to integrate psychological theories and outcome data with clinical practice and service provision.
• Ability to assess needs, plan, implement and evaluate appropriate interventions with children and parents/carers across the age range.
• Skills in planning and delivering evidence-based interventions with children and parents.
• Demonstrate sensitivity in all contact with disadvantaged groups.
• Ability to work with people from different backgrounds, cultures and of different ages.
• Good skills in communicating with children, parents and colleagues.
• Ability to cope with stressful interpersonal situations while maintaining professionalism in the case of highly emotive and distressing problems and the threat of verbal and physical abuse.
