Job overviewThis post is a doctoral clinical fellowship working towards an MD(Res), registered with the ICR and awarded by the University of London. The project will focus on clinical and translational research relevant to the application of specialised radiotherapy in the management of urological cancers particularly renal cancer. The exact remit of the project will be developed by the successful candidate in collaboration with their Primary Supervisor (Dr Vincent Khoo) and supervisory team. The research will evaluate the utilisation of ablative therapies particular stereotactic and high dose volumetric modulated arc therapy. This will require close collaboration with the academic and clinical physics teams at the ICR/RMH. You will join a team of urology oncology research fellows who pursue a wide range of radiotherapy and laboratory research within the unit.
The post holder will be based in the Royal Marsden hospital in Chelsea unit but will also have the option working across both sites of the hospital although they may preferentially base themselves at one site. A urology oncology specific clinical trials team, the Clinical Trials Unit Urology Oncology (CTUUC), supports trial coordination and data management for the unit's trials.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder is expected to be a senior clinical oncology trainee and will typically hold a national training number in clinical oncology and plan to undertake this fellowship as Out-of-program research experience. The fellowship will suit an oncology trainee who envisages a future career as a clinical researcher interested in academic clinical trial development and translational research and wishes to build the knowledge and skills to support this path.
The post will support the clinical aspects of Dr Khoo's programme to develop clinical studies to evaluate the utilisation of radiotherapy for the treatment of oligometastatic and uncontrolled local disease in the management of renal cancer. An integral part of the research will be to develop the randomised clinical trial Phase I/II trial and procure funding for trial initiation. This is likely to account for around 70% of the role.
