Clinical Research Fellow Higher Experimental Functional Neurosurgery

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic clinical research fellow to work at Cardiff University's "Advanced Neuro Therapies Research Centre (ANTC)" under the supervision of Professor Gray. Professor Gray as Cardiff University's Professor of Functional Neurosurgery is the academic lead in neurosurgery in Wales with principal interests in basic and clinical stem cell research related to brain repair, and gene and cell-based therapies for neurological disease.
Main duties of the jobThe Clinical Research Fellowship will be based within the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW). For the research aspect of this post the appointee will be located at UHW and CUBRIC, home to one of Europe's most powerful brain scanners, depending upon the needs of your research project and as guided by your supervisor. For the clinical duties, you will be located at the UHW neurosurgery department.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Post:
The Clinical Research Fellow will be involved in supporting current gene therapy surgical trials at UHW. They will also be required to undertake an original piece of research in neurosciences mainly focused on investigating gene and drug delivery to the human brain for a wide variety of brain diseases, under the supervision of Professor William Gray, and other investigators across advanced imaging, engineering and biosciences as appropriate. It is possible for this work to become part of a submission for a higher degree (PhD) to Cardiff University dependent on acquiring further funding.

Person Specification Qualifications- MBBS or equivalent
- Current GMC certificate
- Training in Radiation Protection or agreement to attend next available course
- MRCS/FRCS
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences or equivalent
- Current GCP certification
- Intercalated Degree
- MSc or BSc in MR imaging
- Previous surgical experience
- 12 months experience in neurosurgery post foundation years
- Previous experience in clinical/lab-based research
- Previous experience of MR research
- Experience in Python, Matlab programming
- Clinical Experience in neurosurgery at SHO or Registrar level
- Effective communication skills - Verbal and written
- Up to date with current medical practices
- Proven analytical skills
